Local Fight Scene Update: Busy Weekend for MMA in the Carolinas

New, 2 comments

If you're a MMA fan in the Carolinas, there are multiple opportunies for you to witness some quality pro and amateur fights this weekend. Below are a few of the bouts that will be featured in three separate local fight cards:

May 7th- "Cage Fights at the Epicentre 3" fight card at the Epicentre in Charlotte, N.C.

Pro 155- Joseph "El Dingo Loco" Carroll (3-4) vs. Jordan Rinaldi (0-0). This is an interesting main event because it sees a solid veteran matched up with one of the highest ranked amateur lightweights in the Carolinas. Carroll was 8-2 as an amateur and has compiled a 3-4 record as a professional while fighting a tough slate of opponents. His opponent on Saturday will be no exception. Team Roc's Rinaldi was 5-1 as an amateur and is looking to make Saturday's main event his authoritative entrance into the pro ranks.

Pro 155- Kurtis Cloward (0-0) vs. Jeremiah Brown (1-3). Cloward has been a very solid amateur on the local lightweight scene for the past couple of years. Now he steps up to the professional ranks and there to welcome him is Brown, coming off of a recent win.

Amateur 170- Micah Lail (9-4) vs. Blaine Thomas (9-5). These two fighters are always in exciting fights. This one should be no exception. Thomas is a tall, rangy welterweight with a lot of talent and Lail has been on a tear, elevating himself to being recognized as one of the top 170 pounders in the Carolinas.

Amateur 135- Brantley Furr (2-0) vs. Austin Hiatt (2-1).

May 8th- "Mama Said Knock You Out" fight card at the Raleigh Convention Center

Pro Heavyweight- Keith "Bad Newz" Bell (1-0) vs. James Price (0-0). In his second pro fight, Raleigh's Keith Bell is matched up with a very large former professional boxer named James Price.

Pro 205 lbs.- Ryan Bedini (0-0) vs. Chico Santiago (0-1). Team Huskey product Ryan Bedini makes his professional debut against Chico Santiago in what should be an entertaining fight.

Amateur 155 lbs.- Harley Farris (2-0) vs. Gregory Weeks (2-0). The lightweight scene in the Carolinas has the most depth of talent by far. Getting a victory here would be a nice feather in the cap of either of these two undefeated fighters.

Amateur 135 lbs.- Jesus Ortega (2-0) vs. Varon Webb (1-1). Make sure that you don't get p to go to the concession stand during this matchup. Both of these guys bring it.

May 8th- "Caged Chaos" fight card at the Jamil Temple in Columbia, S.C.

Pro 185 lbs. - Josh Eagans (3-1) vs. Tony Cantrell (3-0). Eagans has quicly become one of the more talked about young fighters in the region. At only 21-years of age, his future appears to be bright. He will, however, have his hands full against the undefeated Cantrell.

Pro 135 lbs. - Tim Goodwin (4-2) vs. Andrew Higgins (2-0). Goodwin looks to rebound from a recent loss by taking on Georgia's undefeated Andrew Higgins. This should be an entertaining matchup between two fighters with different styles and strengths.

Pro 155 lbs.  - Tyeson Harrison (0-0) vs. Bryan Mullis (0-0). Myrtle Beach's Tyeson Harrison, a former amateur boxer, makes his pro MMA debut against pro boxer Bryan Mullis.

Amateur 155 lbs. - Jabari Price (1-0) vs. Cody Parker (1-1)
