UFC 124 Quote of the Day: St. Pierre on finishing fights

New, 14 comments

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, who defends his title against Josh Koscheck on Saturday at UFC 124 in Montreal, spoke to reporters on the UFC 124 media conference call Monday and commented on finishing fights.

Of course, St. Pierre has won two straight dominant unanimous decisions against Thiago Alves (UFC 100) and then Dan Hardy (UFC 111).

Still, that isn't enough for the champion.

"I want to finish fights," St. Pierre said. "I've been very close my last fights. In my last fight, close to finishing two times. I made a little mistake. I want to make sure if I get the opportunity to finish I'm going to take it. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't make the same mistake twice."

For this fight, St. Pierre has worked with noted boxing trainer Freddie Roach and Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Roger Gracie.

"Roger Gracie came in and helped me a lot. Roger finishes his opponent when he takes the guy's back. I've been working on that, so if I get the opportunity to finish, I will be able to finish him a lot better this time. I've been putting a lot of energy on punching power and the finish."
