California State Athletic Commission Executive Director George Dodd told MMAJunkie.com that former UFC middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen will appeal his positive drug test at the commission's Dec. 2 meeting in Sacramento, Calif.
Sonnen tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone following his Aug. 7 bout with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif.
News broke of his positive test Sept. 19.
Should the positive test be upheld, Sonnen will be suspended one year and fined $2,500.
MMA Junkie's report notes that Sonnen has requested documentation from the positive test, plus all relevant information from the testing laboratory.
