Happy One Year Anniversary With MMA4Real On SBN

New, 20 comments

You know.  Time flies when you are having fun.  It's hard to believe that today marks the one year anniversary of MMA4Real officially launching on the SBN network.  First of all, I'd like to thank the guys at SBN for the opportunity to do what we do.  Secondly, I'd like to thank the staff for their contributions during this past year.  I was pretty much solo with Charles Walker officially joining the site shortly after the launch.  We then added Rich Wyatt who's done a very good job of scouring North Carolina getting interviews with some of it's top fighters and attending local shows when available.  We then added Matt Bishop and crew with the Lights Out Radio show, and those guys have been doing a great job with that.  However, we've all been talking and we'll be taking things to an entirely different level in year number two.  What I would like to do is highlight some of the accomplishments of the site and sorta of give a state of the blog type of address.

I'd like to take a moment and talk about our growth over the past year.

-We now have over 600 registered community members.  You can view the MMA4Real Google Reader Map Here.

-Our members have posted 36,378 comments

-We'll surpass over 1 million page views in about 3 weeks.

-We have over 500 fans on our Facebook page.  Become a fan here.

-We've done about 50 different fighter interviews with good mixture of local and UFC/WEC fighters.

Check out a lot of good information after the jump that you may or may not know.

Did you know:  That you are encouraged and welcomed to post a FANPOST anytime you have a well thought out opinion, comment, or idea.  Your FANPOST must be about a subject that will likely inspire an extended discussion.

Did you know:  That if you come across any MMA related article, stories, quote, news report, video, pictures, or any else relevant, you can share them with the rest of the MMA4Real members by posting a FANSHOT link.  You are always encouraged to post a comment or opinion along with the link to generate comments from your fellow members.

Did you know: That you can click on "Edit Settings" and increase or customize the number of stories, fanpost, and fanshots that are displayed on the front page.  While you are in the "Edit Settings," you should make sure your "Live update comment threads with new comments?" is set to "yes", and your "Default comment format" is set to "expanded."

Did you know:  That at the bottom of the front page, just before the names of the MMA4Real staff members, there are 2 tabs.  One is labeled "Next Page" (self explanatory) and the other is "Explore Full Archive" that when clicked, gives you all the stories printed in most recent order, along with any new comments you may not have yet read, or that may have been posted after the story was bumped from the front page.

Did you know: That there is a search post and comments featurein the upper left hand corner of the front page, that when you type in key words, you will get tabs for stories, fanpost, fanshots, and even comments relating to those key words you are looking for.  Then just click the tab that you are interested in to see your search results.  Hint, the more key words you use the narrower you search results will be.

Did you know:  That as you read the comments of a story, fanpost, or fanshot, it is recommended you hit the "Z" key after you finish reading that comment, and this will mark your message as read, and take you to the next unread message.  The next time you visit that story, only the unread messages will be highlighted, and by hitting the "Z," you will be taken to the first unread message automatically.

Did you know:  That when replying to a comment, before typing your comments, you should click on the "Reply" button on the comment you are replying to.  This will keep the thread manageable and in the right sequence.

Did you know:  That if you agree with another members comments, you should click on the "Actions" button on the comment you agree with, then click the "REC" button.  After a comment receives a REC it turns green

Did you know:  That if you get lost trying to follow someones reply to a comment in a long thread, you can click on the "UP" button on the thread you are wondering about, and it will take you up to the original comment that the member was replying to.

Did you know:  That if you want to post a link in an ongoing thread, you must post it in the MESSAGE (body) part of the comment, and not in the SUBJECT line,  for the link to work properly.

Did you know: That we have live/open threads for all major MMA events, so you should join us as the fights go down.  We have a great time.

Did you know: That you can subscribe to MMA4Real, the Fanposts, or the Fanshots, by following the links supplied on the left side of the front page, in order to keep up with the latest information published on MMA4Real.

Please consider this Guide a work in progress.  I am hoping that you the readers, have other hints or suggestions that you have discovered that makes your visits here more enjoyable and productive.  If so please share them with us and I will update this accordingly.

We will be expanding our coverage beyond the state of North Carolina if you couldn't already tell with our coverage of South Carolina and Georgia MMA.  We hope to attend more local shows and promote even more local fighters in the coming year.  I also plan to implement a fighter's classified area for guys that may be looking for fights.  All you would have to do is join the community and post your fighter information(height, weight, experience, fight record).  Then I would distribute that information to promoters with upcoming shows.

We WILL be getting MMA4Real t-shirts printed up, and we'll have them for sale within the next month or so.  All money will go towards traveling to shows and providing more coverage of the sport, etc.

I am looking for one more contributor to the site.  If you are interested, email me at kelvinhunt@hotmail.com for details.

Once again, on behalf of the staff at MMA4Real.

THANK YOU.
