Dana white voiced his displeasure about Strikeforce and Showtime's decision to sign the 47 year old former NFL player on the Mike Chiapetta's Inside The Ultimate Fighter Podcast. Here's what White had to say:
"I think it's ridiculous, People think we're anti-competition? We're anti-dumb competition. Doing stupid things like this, putting a 50-year-old guy in the Octagon for the first time, and then going out there putting out press releases like it's a big deal because you signed a 50-year-old Herschel Walker? Are you serious?"
Dana White seems to think that Showtime is heavily influencing Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker to make bad decisions. He questions if there is an athletic commission that will sanction a Herschel Walker fight:
"Which athletic commission is going to let this guy fight? Who the f*ck are they going to find to fight Herschel Walker? A guy in a wheelchair?"
I think they'll be able to sanction a Herschel Walker fight considering his taekwondo background. However, I have to agree with White in that this comes off as a publicity stunt and I'm sure they could have found someone else with more credibility to add to their bare heavyweight division.
