Report: Jay Hieron vs. Nick Diaz Likely For Welterweight Title At August Strikeforce Event

Via MMAWeekly:

Three days after the clothing company ceased its prizefighting operations, the former International Fight League welterweight champion has agreed in principal to a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce, though a contract has yet to be signed.

In his first fight, Hieron would be expected to step in for Joe Riggs to face Nick Diaz at Strikeforce "Carano vs. Cyborg" in San Jose, Calif., on Aug. 15. The fight will likely be for the first ever Strikeforce welterweight title.

Scott Coker and company have solution after solution for problems that keep plaguing the anticipated Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg event.  The show initially was going to offer 4 title fights, but injury bugs were out in full force.  Injuries forced Alistair Overeem and Joe Riggs off the card as they both were one half of two title fights.  However, Strikeforce was able to rebound by adding the Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi light heavyweight title fight that was initially scheduled for the Affliction 3 show.  So now the show will feature 3 titles fights with a fourth being possible if Josh Thomson's injury is fully healed, or if Strikeforce decides to get a replacement to face Gilbert Melendez.  Give me your thoughts on this event.
