UFC Light Heavyweight champ Rashad Evans spoke recently with Michael David Smith. Here is what he thinks when it comes to Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson:
"I thought Lyoto was more deserving than Rampage anyway," "He's better."
I don't know how to take that statement. I think it's fair to say that Lyoto Machida is a more well rounded fighter than Rampage Jackson. However, to say that Machida is better is a bit much at this point in my opinion. The competition that Machida has faced pales in comparison to Jackson's resume, and Jackson has a much higher finishing percentage. In terms of who is more deserving of a title shot, I have to go with Jackson. I mean Machida has won 6 fights in a row, but none of those guys are top fighters.(If you are new to the blog, others will tell you that I don't consider Thiago Silva top competition).
I wonder if this is Rashad Evans just trying to hype this fight up with Machida a little bit, or is he secretly playing psychological mind games with Rampage Jackson before they even have a chance to fight?
