In USA Today Dana White responded to a recent statement that Keith Jardine had made with Yahoo Sports earlier this week. White was responding to Jardine stating that he and Rashad Evans would never fight if it came down to it. However, White questioned Jardine's will to be the best and had this to say:
“I disagree with that. And I have to their face many times… Their careers are going to cross paths. And when they do, they’re going to have to fight. This isn’t basketball or football. You’re not part of a team. Do you want to be the champ? If Rashad’s got that belt, what are you going to do - sit your whole career out and wait for Rashad to retire?"
Jardine has gone on record saying that he would move up to the heavyweight division if need be. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Of course, a Rampage victory against Jardine at UFC 96 this weekend negates pretty much everything for now. I agree with White in this instance though. It's the same problem I have with the guys at the American Kickboxing Academy. If you are from the same camp and fight in the same weight division, when it's time to fight it's time to fight. You beat up one another everyday in practice for free. Why not get paid to do it?
