There were a ton of events that happened in 2008, and there was no way that I was going to compile all of that date. I just don't have the time. This is just a snapshot of the big picture in regards to North Carolina mixed martial arts as far as how the fights are ending. I checked the results for ten events that happened last year, which resulted in the total of 114 MMA fights.
- Of those 114 fights, 20 of them ending via decision checking at a finishing percentage of 18%
- 57 of them ended via Submission which checked in at a finishing percentage of 50%
- 37 of them ended via TKO/KO which checked in at a finishing percentage of 32%
The scary part of this is the following information. Again, this is just a snapshot, but I don't think the numbers would vary too much from the data here. Maybe when I have time I'll compile all that stuff. Let's take a look:
- Of the 57 fights that ended via Submission, 70% of those ended in the first round. Often within the first couple of minutes of the fight.
- Of the 37 that ended via TKO/KO, 76% of those ended in the first round. Often within the first couple of minutes of the fight.
This information tells us a couple of things. Either some promoters are just throwing guys to the wolves in mismatches, or the fighters are entering these fights with little to no training. It's probably a little of both in my opinion. I know it's exciting to see a great KO, or a great submission but not at the expense of someone's safety. I hope both fighters and promoters take this into consideration as they train and put events together.
