The season 2 winner of TUF had a 'tough' year in 2008, going 1-2 on the year. He had definitive losses to BJ Penn and Kenny Florian, both top ten lightweights. His lone win of the year came against Gleison Tibau. A fight in which Stevenson didn't look particuarly good in, but was able to catch Tibau in one of those patented guillotine chokes he likes to use. Granted there's no shame in losing to Penn or Florian, but is Joe Stevenson in a must win situation at UFC 95 against Diego Sanchez?
A loss to Sanchez would be devastating and would put Stevenson in a difficult situation amid all the fighters being cut during the last week or so. Stevenson is a very good fighter, but has failed to deliver against top of the food chain guys in the UFC lightweight division. With guys like Grey Maynard, Nick Diaz, Jim Miller, and Joe Lauzon making some noise is Stevenson expendable?
