Clay Guida is coming off a beating at the hands of Diego Sanchez at the TUF 9 Finale. However, prior to that fight he had hugged his way to back to back wins over Mac Danzig and Nate Diaz. Guida comes into this fight with an overall record of 25-10, but six out of his 9 UFC fights have gone to a judges decision. Guida comes to the cage to simply outwork you with his cardio and wrestling. His striking isn't very good, he has submission wins but they were all about questionable competition.
Kenny Florian comes into this fight fresh off his title shot submission loss against BJ Penn at UFC 101. However, prior to that fight Florian was on a 6 fight winning streak in which he finished 5 of those opponents. Florian comes into this fight with an overall record of 11-4. Florian is well rounded, with very good jiu jitsu skills, striking skills, cardio, but the weakest part of his game is his wrestling. Which just happens to be one of Clay Guida's best attributes.
SBN coverage of UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez
To be honest, this fight has decision written all over it. Guida has titanium in his chin, and Florian doesn't have one punch KO power. If Diego Sanchez couldn't finish Clay Guida in the first round of their fight, I seriously doubt that Florian will be able to do it. This fight will go one of two ways. Either Florian will not be able to stop Guida from taking him down, and Florian will not be able to submit Guida off his back because Guida fights really safe. Well, basically just lays and prays to put it bluntly. Florian does possess razor sharp elbows, so he may be able to slice Guida up from the bottom if he's taken down. The flip side of it is Florian will be able to stop enough of Guida's take downs that he'll be able to outpoint Guida on the feet. Florian likes to throw kicks, but those will be negated due them making him susceptibleto a take down. So that kind of limits some of the advantage that he would have in the stand up portion of the fight. However, Florian has been training with GSP, who's arguably the best wrestler in MMA. So maybe he's improved his take down defense enough to squeak by Guida. Who you got in this one?
