A 145-pound bout between veterans Marloes Coenen (16-3) and Erin Toughill (10-2-1) is in the process of being finalized for Strikeforce's Nov. 7 Chicago-area event.
The only negative thing I have to say about this is that this fight isn't guranteed to make the live telecast and it should. This is great match making now that Cyborg Santos can't fight on the card. These were the two women that were in talks to face Santos next, so this fight will basically solidify the winner as the #1 contender to face Santos. The fight can be built up in similar fashion to the Carano/Santos fight. I'm not into WWE type stuff, but if one of these fighters wins impressively(like Santos did before the Carano fight), you could bring Santos in afterwards to let everyone know that's who she's going to fight next. I wrote after Santos destroyed Carano that she could be a star for Strikeforce if they promote her properly.
Toughill and Coenen have history as Toughill was able to put Coenen away back in 2004. You can view the fight here if you want to see it. So it'll be interesting to see if Coenen can put up a fight this time around.
