According to Sherdog Tim Sylvia has recently been in negotiations to fight Ken Shamrock. Yep, you read that correctly as in not winning a fight since 2004 Ken Shamrock. Shamrock's management confirmed the fight was discussed, but communicated that the fight was turned down by Shamrock's camp. Below is what Sylvia had to say:
"I love to fight and a fight’s a fight," said Sylvia. "He’s a Hall of Famer. He’s a legend. To progress your career you always have to fight somebody like that.
"I don’t know if he’s a stepping stone or anything, but he’s been on some of the same cards I’ve been on and he’s been highlighted over me, so I want to let people that I am better than this guy and there’s no reason he should have been highlighted over me."
What the hell? So you are supposedly one of the best heavyweights in the game, yet you want to fight a guy because he's been featured as the main event over you before? Is Sylvia really that stupid, or is he THAT afraid of losing his next fight? I'll settle for both in this instance because of some of the stupid stuff he's said in the past. Since when did beating Ken Shamrock become advancing someone's career? I could see that when Shamrock fought Rich Franklin back in 2005, but come the hell on Tim. It's interesting that they are looking for him to fight in Japan. This is just speculation on my part, but maybe Monte Cox knows something we don't? Maybe he knows or thinks that Affliction's third offering will never come to fruition?
