James Irvin: "I Made A Poor Choice"

New, 4 comments

"In the days leading up to my fight with Anderson Silva (Pictures), I experienced some residual pain in my foot from a previous injury," wrote Irvin in an Aug. 14 letter. "I made the extremely poor choice to take some pain medications that I did not have a prescription for. I realize this was an ignorant and dangerous decision."
Now I'm not the brightest guy in the world, but this is just plain retarded. How on earth did he expect to not get caught? Did he think he wouldn't get tested, even though he was fighting in the main event? I respect Irvin for even fighting Silva, and even more doing so on short notice. However, you have to look at the big picture. He could be facing a 9 month suspension as well as a $20,000 fine. Please note that Irvin was paid $20,000 to fight Anderson Silva on the card. So basically he didn't make any money(besides sponsors monies) and now could possibly miss 2 fights due to suspension. He lost in more ways than one.
