In a recent interview done with Tatame Maia dropped the goods:
Man, they said about fighting again this year. I prefer to fight in December, because in January is more difficult for me, to find sparrings… I believe I fight again in December.
The list of challengers is short for Maia after coming off a submission victory over Jason MacDonald at UFC 87. Prior to this loss, MacDonald's only losses in the UFC were to former champ Rich Franklin and top contender Yushin Okami. Maia a BJJ expert is 8-0 in his career with all his wins coming via submission. I'm just speculating here, but he could possibly face the winner of the Dan Henderson/Rousimar Palhares fight that takes place at UFC 88. He could also face the winner of the Michael Bisbing/Chris Leben fight taking place at UFC 89. However, that might be to quick of a turnaround for Bisbing or Leben if Maia is to fight again in December.
