"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 3:49 PM EST reply actions

Yep, Yep

Anyway, I’m glad that I’m able to listen to the show this time around. I really enjoyed the last one, but had to listen to most of it on download due to the sort of computer issues that only Neil would know or care about. Thankfully things are fine now.

As for tomorrow night’s show, I hope it turns out better than the last Fight for the Troops card, where multiple people got seriously injured.

by Blair Russell on Jan 21, 2011 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

Glad to hear you got your computer issues ironed out Blair.

And why would you want less violence on this Fight for the Troops card? I thought the last one was one of the most fun shows ever.

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks

Well, I don’t mean “less violence”. Of course violence is fun to watch. But I don’t really want to see too many fighters (if any at all) end up in the hospital due to injuries suffered in a fight. Something like half a dozen guys ended up in the ER at the last show!

by Blair Russell on Jan 21, 2011 4:02 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, I don’t need to see Corey Hill get his leg snapped again.

LOL

Neil is STILL mad about the loss of HDNet. That happened more than a year ago! Sure, I was not happy about it either, but I thought I had a long memory.

by Blair Russell on Jan 21, 2011 4:03 PM EST reply actions

I'll ALWAYS be mad about the loss of HDNET.

Man, they’re making Pettis sit on the side lines for almost 7 months? That’s a bit much.

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 4:06 PM EST reply actions

True

But, the Memorial Day weekend show is supposed to have Edgar vs. Maynard 3, so I’m sure they did it for timing reasons.

by Blair Russell on Jan 21, 2011 4:12 PM EST up reply actions

This is true. I guess it’s a timing thing. Plus they probably wanted Pettis in a high profile spot on a card, not just some third from the top thing.

Matt and Neil in a car together for 4 hours together? Can we get an audio recording of that?

Haven’t the TUF finale shows traditionaly been the lowest rated Spike shows ever?

Sounds better than usual.

Well

You don’t sound like a robot and there’s no Skype-ing (at least not yet) so that’s good.

C’mon, don’t jinx em Blair!

My Bad

But, one great moment was from I believe ‘09, when Matt’s Skype went out of control and his voice sounded like it was Auto-tuned! That still makes me laugh today.

Can we hear some thoughts on the GSP-Shari Spencer split?

Dunham should have won 29-28. I thought it was pretty simple to score personally.

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 4:51 PM EST up reply actions

Ha

I shouldn’t mention this as it’ll at least set off Forrest, but hearing that reminds me of Bryan Alvarez and his hatred/fear/confusion of math! At least none of you have made any stupid comments about fractions or not being able to correctly add up his own score cards for MMA shows, or what have you. Then again, none of the hosts of this show are as childish or immature like Mr. Alvarez is.

by Blair Russell on Jan 21, 2011 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

Can we get a sound byte of that for the future?

Mark Hominick won a split decision over Leonard Garcia, so he MUST be an awesome fighter. Right?

Am I the only one that gets the feeling that Joey Beltran is just going to take Pat Barry down over and over again and win a tepid decision?

fight scoring

i always thought that PRIDE had the best scoring system where the judged the fight as a whole. not a rd by rd 10 point must system. why wouldnt the american fighting companies do it that way too?

by Steve_from_cali on Jan 21, 2011 5:08 PM EST reply actions

What was so great about Pride scoring? Have you not seen all the lame decisions Dan Henderson won by just flurrying in the last minute of the fight?

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 5:10 PM EST up reply actions

well pride was corrupted. but if the system was used here with impartial judges it could work. the winner is the one who won the f’n fight

by Steve_from_cali on Jan 21, 2011 5:12 PM EST up reply actions

There’s nothing wrong with the 10 point must system. It’s the judges. Under what scoring system does Leonard Garcia EVER win a fight?

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 5:13 PM EST up reply actions

im just not a fan of draws.

by Steve_from_cali on Jan 21, 2011 5:14 PM EST reply actions

But how many draws are there with the ten point must system?

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

Not even 5% of the fights go to a draw. It’s a non-issue.

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

i also think it would give us the right dec after close fights and cut down the bad scorings

by Steve_from_cali on Jan 21, 2011 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

How about we get some good judges instead of changing the scoring system? We still have judges who think Leonard Garcia is winning fights.

"Everytime I start talking about boxing, a white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano out of their ass!"

by Brian Mayes on Jan 21, 2011 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

i think if they could find better judges they would. who do u think should judge?

by Steve_from_cali on Jan 21, 2011 5:25 PM EST up reply actions

People who understand the sport.
