'WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan' Open Thread, Discussion, Results

Join MMAForReal.com community members and staffers tonight at 9 p.m. ET for our open thread and discussion for tonight's "WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan" which is headlined by a WEC featherweight championship bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Manny Gamburyan. The show also features a lightweight grudge rematch between former champion Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone.
Tonight's show will emanate from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colo.
There will be no edition of Lights Out Radio after the show. Instead, the trio will review the show at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT Friday.

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but did you not love Miguel Torres high left-shoulder, right hand protect chin stance?

The style reminds me of some old school boxers, I’ve seen some muay thai fighters employ it. It’s really great for tall fighters. One of my pet peeves with Miguel Torres is I don’t think he really took advantage of his height.
Today he did.
Oh yeah, if he went as far to use a shoulder roll, I would wonder if Torres visited Mayweather Sr. or the troubled Uncle Roger Mayweather.
It wasn’t the most exciting fight and I give Valencia some credit for competing, but I really love this fight for the technical aspect displayed by Torres. Freaking awesome.

I remember that a song caught my ear and I tried to figure it out, but I forgot about it, and deleted WEC from my DVR. If you’ve still got the recording (or audio available in some way) look up a piece of software called “Shazzam”; it’ll analyze the song and figure it out, and is on most smartphones, and maybe even on computers.
