Cro Cop given OK to compete against Mir at UFC 119

2006 PRIDE Open-Weight Grand Prix champion Mirko Cro Cop has been cleared for his main event fight this Saturday at UFC 119 against Frank Mir.

UFC.com has it:

Legendary Croatian striker Mirko Cro Cop has been examined by an ophthalmologist in Indianapolis, site of Saturday's UFC 119 event at Conseco Fieldhouse, and has been medically cleared to compete in the main event this weekend against former two-time heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

Cro Cop suffered a poke in the eye in the last round of his final sparring session for the bout last week, but after a few days of rest, he is in tip top shape for this pivotal battle of heavyweight contenders.

Well, this certainly is great news as it appears we can now put this saga behind us and look forward to the fight itself. Although Cro Cop is cleared to fight, we'll be left wondering if this eye poke will have any adverse effect on him as he enters the cage Saturday.

It doesn’t really matter. Mir is going to have his way with CC regardless of the eye’s condition. I’m a huge CC fan but his prime is long past. I’d give anything for the CC from 5 years ago to show up but it just isn’t physically possible anymore.

While it’s not the same CC…Mir isn’t going to sub him….and if he can’t get the fight to the ground….don’t believe Mir’s own hype that he’s going to beat CC standing….I really doubt he hits harder than Pat Barry.
