UFC 117 Results: Guida forces dos Anjos to tap
A close fight ended up going Clay Guida's way.
Guida broke Rafael dos Anjos' jaw in the first round and forced him to tap out from the half guard in the third round, picking up his second win in a row with the submission at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif.
Both men swinging wildly to start. Head kick lands for Guida. Fast-paced fight through the first minute. Guida sends dos Anjos backward with a series of punches. Dos Anjos tries for a takedown but Guida stuffs it and turns it around. He's got dos Anjos against the cage as the crowd chants his name. Guida really wants the takedown. Still has dos Anjos pressed against the cage. They break. Dos Anjos with a left hook that lands flush. Dos Anjos shoots but is stuffed. Dos Anjos working inside leg kicks. He goes high then tags Guida with an uppercut and follows that with a takedown with 35 seconds left in the round. Guida trying to get to his feet. They get to their feet and the round ends.
Dos Anjos misses a high kick to start the second round. Huge "Let's Go Guida" chant fires up. Dos Anjos presses Guida against the cage. They break. Both fighters still keeping a high pace. Dos Anjos controlling the action until Guida gets his first takedown. Butterfly guard for dos Anjos into closed guard. Guida passes briefly into half-guard by dos Anjos immediately regains full guard. Guida back into half-guard now. Guida trying to pass further. He's setting up an arm-triangle but dos Anjos regains full guard again. Guida postures up and lands a few shots to end the round.
Another round starts with a furious pace and a big exchange. Guida picks up and slams dos Anjos and lands in half-guard. Guida is grinding on dos Anjos and after some time in this position, trying to set up an arm-triangle, dos Anjos taps out and gets up holding his jaw.
