UFC 118 Results: Diaz dominates Davis, chokes him out

Nate Diaz's second venture at 170 pounds was a dominant performance.

Diaz mangled Marcus Davis' face for 14 minutes before taking him to the ground and choking him unconscious with 59 seconds left in the fight.

Diaz is already talking to Davis less than 10 seconds into the fight. Davis lands a nice left hook. Davis drops Diaz as he is in the process of taunting. Diaz survives and keeps taunting. Davis cut already a minute in under the right eye. Diaz with  a nice hook. Both men land. Diaz making no effort to take this to the ground yet. Nice two punch and a kick combo for Diaz. Diaz takes Davis into the fence but Davis escapes the clinch. Diaz looking for a single against the fence but he gives it up. Both men swinging. Both men just standing the middle of the cage and swinging. Both landing. Davis' cut is bad with 30 seconds left. A lot of blood. They are just swinging for the fences here. Round ends.

The cut is very deep and is above the eye. They're going to let Davis continue. Well, the round is about to begin and the referee calls timeout and the doctor is in to look at the cut and check the eye. It will continue. Nice left by Davis connects. Diaz ducks under a shot and is looking for a takedown against the fence. He gives it up but keeps it against the cage and Davis escapes. Nice left for Davis. Diaz lands a series of shots. Davis goes body/head. Diaz throwing kicks and punches, Davis is all punches. Both fighters still throwing. Davis lunges in with a left that connects. Now Davis throws a kick. Another. Davis now working the leg kicks here finally. They trade leg kicks and Diaz pushes Davis against the cage. He can't finish a trip takedown but it's Davis who gets one of his own but is immediately reversed as the round ends. Davis' eye is not looking good. Lots of swelling and the cut has expanded.

It looks like a piece of skin falls off Davis' eye area onto his eye lash as the round begins. The referee tells Davis to protect his eye. They clinch against the cage and Davis slips out again. Nice right hook and a follow-up uppercut by Diaz. Diaz with a straight left and Davis answers. It looks like Diaz is slapping Davis now. Davis' eye is a mess. Diaz getting rolling. Knee from a clinch for Diaz and Diaz takes him down with about 1:40 to go. Davis' eye is in real bad shape. Diaz passes to half-guard. Davis tries to scramble but Diaz eats him right up into a guillotine and puts him to sleep. Great performance by Nate Diaz.
