Fedor, M-1 Global Seeking Match with Alistair Overeem
Our friends over at MMAMania report there are interesting things officially coming from the Fedor camp:
Fedor: "This [fight with Overeem] is an important match for me and something that I personally want to happen. There have been conversations about putting this match-up together in the past and now is the time to begin making this bout possible."
Evgeni Kogan: "As a global mixed martial arts company committed to driving the evolution of the sport and showcasing match-ups that the fans deserve to see, we want to make this bout a reality in 2010.
That corroborates a quote attributed to Fedor by the Russian website Mixfight.ru:
"Сertainly, I would like to have a rematch with Werdum. But as he had surgery this fight unlikely to happen soon. This year, in November-December, I would like to meet in a cage with Alistair Overeem"
This is a fight fans have been clamoring for since the Russian signed with Strikeforce a year ago. Despite Fedor coming off a loss to Fabricio Werdum, the matter of whether or not he should be in a title match is irrelevant. They've thrown fighters coming off a loss into title shots before and the Strikeforce belts are essentially valueless, so why let that get in the way of a fight the fans want to see?
One thing, however, may cause some hangups in the matchmaking. Josh Gross has reported that M-1 wants Olympic-style drug testing, while Overeem insists the testing of the athletic commissions is adequate. Hopefully this doesn't dissolve into a Pacquiao/Mayweather-type debacle... This is the best fight Strikeforce can make and I'm sure as hell interested in seeing it finally happen.

M-1 wants Olympic-style drug testing
I will laugh my ass off if Fedor ends up fighting Barnett instead
And yeah, the title means dick… so if they can book this, by all means do.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
