Quote of the Day: Thiago Alves speaks on UFC 117 weight-cutting issues, his future
UFC welterweight Thiago Alves spoke about his weight-cutting issues at UFC 117 and his future with MMAFighting.com, which he believes will continue to be in the welterweight division, despite him losing $12,000 of his $60,000 purse after weighing in at 171.5 pounds.
"It was just a half-pound, so I'm sure my body could have flushed it out," he said. "But I didn't want to. I just wanted to concentrate on the fight. It was just easier for me to give up the money. Yes, we fight for money, but you also fight to win, and at the time, I was thinking I didn't want to cut the weight. I was just focused on getting ready to fight. When you're cutting weight and dehydrated, you don't always think right. In the future, that won't happen again. It can't happen again."

If I were him I’d quit the weights and ask Jon Fitch if he’d let me come by drill takedown defense for a year or so.

Alves has excellent takedown defense
On a scale of 1 to Prime Chuck Liddel, he’s probably an 8.
I just think he was disgustingly drained. Fitch actually outstruck him in the fight.
I throw raps that attack like the Japs on Pearl Harbor/MC's be out like bank robbers/Fleeing the scene, to be a sole survivor/DJ the getaway driver/Tried to dip but he dive, I socialize on vocal vibes/On tracks stabbed up with razor sharp knives
