Strikeforce 135-pound women's tournament sees format changes
Last week, Strikeforce announced the rules for its 135-pound women's tournament scheduled for this Friday at Strikeforce Challengers 10.
The tournament, which features Miesha Tate, Maiju Kujala, Hitomi Akano and Carina Damm, has undergone some changes since the promotion announced the first format last week.
MMARising.com has the details:
This Friday's Strikeforce 135-pound women's tournament has undergone last-minute format changes. The promotion announced last week that all bouts in the four-woman tournament would be contested under a three, three-minute round format. However, opening round bouts have now been shortened and will be contested over just two rounds of three minutes.
In addition, original plans that called for a sudden death round in the event of a tie have been scrapped. It is expected that judges will be tasked with determining an outright winner and that Draws will not be permitted.
Well, this slowly crept into YAMMA territory here. These changes are very disappointing to see. Two three-minute rounds is less than desirable and when you're using the 10-point must system, I don't agree that a judge should be forced to pick a winner if they score the bout a draw. That opens the door for corruption. Not saying it's likely, but these are things that should be avoided at all costs. If you're going to circumvent the 10-point must system, what's the point of even having it?

Word.

That’s quite a big expectation! But what if it’s a REAL draw? Like, one girl wins two rounds but gets a point deducted, it’s a legit 28-28. Also, why the last minute change? Seems they’d have the commission stuff worked out well ahead of it.. you know, like WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED IT. More amateur-hour BS from Strikeforce.
You know what's really fun? Not being a raving lunatic. Give it a try some time, you might just like it!

Well
They didn’t have the commission stuff worked out beforehand, as I understand the commission demanded the changes at the last minute, so I have to presume that this wasn’t planned out or even presented to them until real late in the process.
As I’ve said many times before, “Typical Strikeforce”. What a low-rent rinky-dink promotion this is.

That’s just as bad though. I mean, announcing rules before it passes the commission? Low-rent indeed.

2×3 plus 3×3 =15 mins. Why doesn’t this surprise me Coker needs to realise Commisions in the US are not going to let him have fighters in Two 3×5 Fights in one night like they do in Japan
