Mark Hunt To Face Sean McCorkle at UFC 119
Fiveouncesofpain.com is reporting that PRIDE FC and K-1 veteran Mark Hunt will be making his UFC debut in Indianapolis at UFC 119 on September 25th. Hunt (5-6) will be facing undefeated Midwest heavyweight Sean McCorkle (7-0). Although McCorkle is undefeated, he's only faced two fighters that have a winning record. Hunt has not won a MMA fight in over four years, but is remembered fondly by many MMA fans for his bouts with Wanderlei Silva, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Fedor Emelianenko.

See, this is what baffles me about this signing. Not to mention that the dude isn’t the physique that Dana usually wants for his fighters. I mean, I’ve been a big Hunt fan for a long time, but his post-Pride fights have been really, really bad.

There is no way this is true. In addition to not believing the UFC would pay money to sign Mark Hunt, there is no way I believe McCorkle is fighting in the UFC. If any of you guys don’t know who McCorkle is, you need to spend some time on the Underground. This dude has been a regular on the UG for several years and is not a professional fighter.
File this one right next to the reports of Kimo’s death.
Dana is saying
it’s because they owe Hunt fights from when they took over Pride:

Wasn’t that like 4 years ago? And is he the only one they “owed fights” too?
Not buying it.

It WAS over years ago
And if it were part of “the Pride deal” then Hunt wouldn’t have been out of work for so long. And he wouldn’t have had three fights for FEG.

how long ago it was is irrelevant, Hunt is owed fights the UFC couldn’t get out of that so they are finally giving him the fights there is no need for conspiracy theories here.

According to Jordan Breen, that’s BS.The actual story was that Hunt was pissed about the whole Zuffa/Pride deal and the fact that he got left holding the bag when they bought Pride, when he still had fights left on his contract.Since Hunt is flat broke right now and can’t get any fights,he was going to sue Zuffa, because he essentialy didn’t have anything better to do.Zuffa instead just gave him a fight to shut him up.
Hunt will probably beat McCorkle, for no other reason than McCorkle is horrible and even a severly faded Hunt is a tough SOB who hits hard. And the 265 weight limit will mean that Hunt will need to show up in shape, which also means he might actually perform well.
Hunt also makes for interesting matchups with Cro Cop in a rematch,Pat Berry,or even James Toney…….God forbid.

That sounds a lot better
That dude got shafted big time. He was caught in a contractual limbo for like, a year and a half with no fights. Got some linkage to the story?

Jordan Breen chat from earlier today.
“Jordan Breen: Hunt wouldn’t confirm this, but I was told by someone that Hunt was wanting to sue over Zuffa giving him the fights from his Pride deal, simply because he’s desperate to fight and get some decent money. After all, that was the whole purpose of his return to K-1.”

Ah ha, nice find
I was part of the live-chat once, but it’s not a format I really dig. This really makes a lot more sense than “we owed him fights” for all the reasons mentioned above… not to mention that the Pride contracts weren’t transferable. I’m guessing Zuffa is just doing it because it’s cheaper to offer him a $20/20 contract that he’ll wash out of than go through any kind of legal proceedings.
