Lesnar earned 43% of the disclosed payroll.
All things considered, Brock Lesnar’s submission was good but not as great as Chris Lytle’s submission victory. I thought he deserved the Sub of the Night honors.
I could imagine future WWE stars considering entering the UFC.
Why not?

VEe is ANIMated!
I like Leben for sub of the night myself.

Lesnar was responsible for about 43% of the PPV buys as well...

oh..no doubt
I was just playing off the fact that it seemed like he was complaining that Lesnar accounted for that much of the payroll.

Eeeh, I dunno about the WWE stars
If Lesnar didn’t have some cred behind him, I don’t know that he’d have gotten in, or stuck around. I mean, if James Toney loses his first fight, I don’t expect him to be back for a second. Same goes for Dave Batista if he gets into Strikeforce.

Yep, TUF dudes are generally in the 8-12k range
Depending on how many fights removed they are from their stint on TV. Also, Tuchscherer is one of Brock’s boys, so that plays into it.

Given that headliners get a PPV cut
I wonder what the 4 headliners really took home, I would guess over a mil easy for Lesnar/Carwin and probably in the 1/4-1/2 mil for Leben and Sexy.
Agreed on submission of the night, Lesnar’s was dramatic, but Carwin sort of shat the bed in giving him the submission on a silver platter. I liked Lytles more, and even Leben worked alot to set up that triangle, both guys they caught with from what I saw, much better submission awareness. But the whole card was good and I was pleased with the event.
Headliners don't necesarily get a PPV cut
Only some people who have it worked into their contract. Lesnar, BJ, GSP, Couture, Anderson Silva just to name a few. But Carwin or Leben? I’d be surprised if they were getting a cut of that pie.

Dana tends to offer the headliners a cut as part of being a headliner.....and has
done this for a long time. Franklin gets a cut just about every fight he has had in the UFC, as does Anderson, and anyone who is facing a headliner tends to get a PPV cut as well as being offered one to be a headliner.
I would just about guarantee Carwin got a PPV cut (was it 2$/buy, I doubt it, but was alot more than his Show money for sure) as well as Akiyama, and wouldnt doubt if Leben got a sniff as well, the guy is popular in the UFC, not my flavor as a personality, but the guy fights his heart out every time and alot of folks do like him.
Of course Franklin gets a cut, he’s been a headliner for years, just like the guys I mentioned. Do you honestly think that Shane Carwin is savvy enough to get a PPV percentage on his contract, but only manage a $40k payday? No. Not gonna happen. The dudes who get a cut are ones who have leverage, and are valuable to the company. Shane Carwin? I can almost guarantee he won’t be getting a percentage.

Peep this:
As for the money side of things. I wont lie and say I wish I was getting a piece of this PPV. Of course I want that, so does every other fighter on the card that is not.
Courtesy of Carwin’s blog. Trust me, they only give PPV percentages to dudes that they really value.

Then he needs a new manager......
Carwin has plenty of leverage, if he lacks the management to get a PPV cut, he needs a new guy, plain and simple.
Heavy weights are not exactly everywhere, of course the UFC values him. I do have a feeling Dana wanting Carwin to quit his job some months back could have greatly affected him being offered a PPV cut.
He really doesn't have plenty of leverage
now…had he beaten Lesnar….he definitely would have….he has 5 UFC fights….the personality of cardboard…and he’s already 35 years old….now..the UFC isn’t going to release him to goto SF or anything like that…but he’s not going to be signing for 250K or anything like that…I don’t care who his manager is….

Issue was ppv cut, not guaranteed money and
Carwin has plenty of leverage to wrangle that.
No, he really doesn't.
They reward their stars, and he is not a star.

As for only 40k paydays
Franklin was getting a cut back when he was only getting 20, so……
Yeah, because he’s a star, and valuable to the UFC. Not to mention that this was also when nobody was making the half-a-mill bank that the Brocks and Randys are today. Just because you headline a card doesn’t mean you get a cut of the PPV revenue; just accept it, and get over it.
