Sokoudjou to face Alexander at Shark Fights 13

Photo

Shark Fights has added to its lineup for its Sept. 11 show, booking a fight between UFC veterans Sokoudjou and Houston Alexander.

The promotion previously announced a light-heavyweight bout between Keith Jardine and Trevor Prangley for the event.

"We are very excited to have Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander as our co-main event on the Shark Fights 13 card," Shark Fights president Brent Medley said in a press release. "Both fighters have impressive knockouts on their records and have thrown down with a long list of tough, notable opponents. This will be no different. This is a very important fight for both fighters and a great opportunity for them to prove to the fans that they are still top contenders in the sport. Be prepared for a full on battle between Sokoudjou and Alexander on September 11."

Alexander is coming off a decision win against David Griffin at UFA 1 on June 11. He is 2-2 in his last four fights.

Sokoudjou has won two in a row since dropping two straight, defeating Joaquim Ferreira by TKO at Impact FC on July 10 and Dave Herman by disqualification May 14.

this should be a hot card

that part of the country is a long time mma hot bed — evan tanner, heath herring and paul buentello all started in the texas panhandle back in the 90s — and shark fights is really big in the region right now. glad to see these guys working.

The biggest face off of the two biggest dissapointments in MMA at 205

I’m guessing that the result will also be a dissapointment. I had so much hope for Houston :(

Big KO win for one of them! Im going to take a bet on Alexander pulling it off!

Sokoudjou wins by being better at literally every facet of MMA than Houston.

The winner of this fight should fight Keith Jardine, if he gets by Trevor Prangley on the same night.

Yeah, but not until you get him past the 7-8 minute mark. No way Houston lasts that long against Sokoudjou. He probably takes him down, mounts him and pounds him out in under 90 seconds. For God’s sake, Houston got out hustled on the ground by Kimbo Slice. I don’t think Sokoudjou is going to have many problems with him.

Whoever wins this mini-tourney of Sokoudjou/Houston Alexander/Jardin/Trevor Prangley will probably get to return to the big leagues

I throw raps that attack like the Japs on Pearl Harbor/MC's be out like bank robbers/Fleeing the scene, to be a sole survivor/DJ the getaway driver/Tried to dip but he dive, I socialize on vocal vibes/On tracks stabbed up with razor sharp knives

If by “the big leagues” you mean Strikeforce, then yes.

Since it’s probably either going to be Jardine or Sokodjou, I mean the UFC.

I'd be really surprised if Sokodjou got back to the UFC

he doesn't have that fat contract anymore

They’d probably take him as a low-end gatekeeper, to see if prospects can make it past the first round, haha.

Eh, if it was a contract deal they just would've cut his pay

Like what they were going to do to Fabricio.

Sokodjou will never be back in the UFC. He’s a known commodity at this point. He’s never, ever going to go anywhere. For God’s sake, he got knocked out by Minowa. The only way I see him getting back in is if they have a young up and coming guy they want to give a “name” opponent. Even then, I kinda doubt it.

This card is definitely intriguing. I don’t see any of these guys making it back to the UFC ever. Jardine is the only one with a chance but the on\off switch on his chin will prevent him from ever stringing enough wins together to be considered.
