Saturday evening matchmaking roundup
Two bouts were reportedly made today. Here's what's up:
MMA Junkie is reporting that former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and Chris Lytle will have a rematch of their "Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale" bout on Sept. 25 at UFC 121 in Indianapolis, Lytle's hometown. Serra's split decision against Lytle in the welterweight final of the TUF4 tournament catapulted Serra to his welterweight title win against Georges St-Pierre and reignited his career. The fight was extremely close, as all three judges scored the bout 30-27 — two for Serra and one for Lytle.
Lytle is coming off a second round submission win against Matt Brown at UFC 116 while Serra knocked out Frank Trigg at UFC 109.
Another Ultimate Fighter winner is booked for action, as Season 8 lightweight tournament winner Efrain Escudero will reportedly face John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night 22 in Austin, Texas, MMA Junkie reports. Gunderson is coming off a unanimous decision win against Mark Holst at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale while Escudero picked up a decision win against Dan Lauzon at UFC 114. The fight is expected to take place on the preliminary portion of the card.

Well,I think the Serra vs Lytle fight will be a lot more exciting than their first fight. Both guys fight a lot more agressively than they did back then.Probably going to turn into a standup war.Hard telling how this could go-for God’s sake,Lytle dropped the first round and was nearly finnished against both Kevin Burns and Matt Brown, two guys he shouldn’t have even been competitive with.
I thought Lytle won the first fight, and I would have to favor him slightly in the rematch because he’s been the more active fighter, but if he came out and acted like a donk and lost the first round to Serra, then gave up a takedown in the third and lost a decision,I wouldn’t be that suprised.

You guys can say what you want
But my neutrality on Lytle and my dislike of Serra make for a fight that’s probably going to make me very, very disinterested.

Lytle is nothing but a solid mid-card action fighter, and doesn’t put himself out there as anything other than that. The guy knows he’s never going to be a title challenger, and embraces it.He’s not one of these donks who goes out there and starts calling for a title shot after winning a fight or two.Lytle knows his place in the company and in the hearts of fans. That’s a good attribute to have.
Serra is sort of like Sonnen,in that he’s a great self promoter. And much like Sonnen,he’s become a much better fighter as of late.If you would have told me 5 years ago that Matt Serra would go 1-1 with GSP,go to a nip and tuck decision with Matt Hughes and knock out Frank Trigg in the first round,I’d say you were on crack. This is the same guy that was having to grind out boring decisions over 135 pounders in 2004.

Oh yeah, for sure
And although I really like that Lytle isn’t making himself out to be some kind of future contender, I still don’t really want to see him fight, for some reason. Serra is a lot like Sonnen, except that he fights infrequently and that I actively dislike him.
