Shamrock announces retirement from MMA
Lost in the shuffle of Fedor Emelianenko's loss to Fabricio Werdum on Saturday was Frank Shamrock's announcement that he is retiring from mixed martial arts.
Shamrock came to the cage inside HP Pavilion, long considered Strikeforce's home arena, with his family and announced he is done fighting.
Shamrock, backed up one of his many nicknames (The Man Who Brought MMA To San Jose) by consistently drawing in his home city at HP Pavilion. Shamrock's fight with Cesar Gracie in 2006 set a then-North American record of 18,265. His fight with Phil Baroni is considered by many to have one of the most electric atmospheres for a fight in the sport's history. His fight with Cung Le drew 16,326 and a gate in excess of $1 million. His final fight, both at HP Pavilion and in his career, drew 15,211 fans when he fought Nick Diaz in April 2009.
The 37-year old Shamrock will wrap up his career with a 23-10-2 record, a record that includes retiring (the first time) as the unbeaten UFC middleweight champion.

I thought the same. What’s next? Ken Shamrock is going to announce his retirement? :-)
I was hoping
the announcement was he was going to have his braces removed.

He can shift his focus from being a below-average MMA fighter to being an absolutely horrible commentator now.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
Huh?
Frank was a well-rounded fighter before it was in vogue. Go back and watch his fight with Tito and witness the first real cerebral approach to MMA. Tito was a beast and had 30 pounds on Frank, but Shamrock made Ortiz completely change his approach to MMA after that fight.
Frank dominated Pancrase could have gone on a remarkable streak in the UFC. And you wont hear from them about how great he truly was because when Zuffa first came in Frank refused to follow the lead of Dana White, insted chosing to retire. The latest incarnation of Frank, with shoddy knees, was nothing like his pre-retirement self.

I know all this – he gets a lot of credit for being one of the first to truly implement MMA in it’s essence inside a cage(/ring). Not just a leg lock guy with some strikes, but more than that.
His last outings were pretty… lame… and he comes across as a humongous butthole.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
I was responding to the part about him not being a great fighter
He was great, left, and came back past his prime and with shot knees.
But yeah, he blows as a broadcaster

Focus implying current goings-ons. As in he sucks as a fighter NOW.
But yeah, we seem to be in agreeance here.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"

i believe fedor will choose werdum for the next fight, as he finally found someone, who is on his level of skill…the rematch will be also the best option for the fans, because lots of fans declare that the king was dethroned, which is not true, fedor is still no. 1 and one mistake can not delete all his previous achievements…
