The Main Event
I just got back a moment ago from the movie theatre, where I saw the pay per view and in various ways I enjoyed it.
I have no idea why Neil would be mad at Pat Berry, as I thought that CRO COP was the one who was his boy. I thought he’d be on Cloud 9 that Mirko got a win, especially in such a hilarious fashion.
As for the main event, it was entertaining for the amount of time it lasted. Of course, everyone in the crowd marked out for the ending and Chuck getting merc’ed so badly, and also for Rich winning despite a broken arm.
I’ll talk about the night and the other fights in separate posts. It won’t be one epic post like it was the last time.
I love me some Cro Cop
But Cro Cop didn’t win, Barry gave it to him.

Yeah, that’s true. It seemed like Pat was more interested in continuing his epic bromance with Cro Cop rather than win the fight.

lol
at the random S-bomb dropped by Neil… and how Bishop and Forrest ignored it, as if S-bombs are dropped all the time on there. I definitely wasn’t offended, as I’m no choirboy, but it just amused me.
I keep it like that so that it stands out more
I think it was warranted though

UFC On The Big Screen
So, for the second time I went to a movie theatre to watch a UFC pay per view. Before I get to that, though, I’ll tell a factoid that I know will cause some laughter. I wore a shirt to the show that Bishop would classify as "high comedy." Last August I got a pair of Affliction shirts. I know, I know, but I’m not a "bro", I swear. I got one shirt for regular price then they had a deal where you could get a certain type of Affliction shirt for only ten dollars more if you buy the first shirt at regular price. The regular shirt I got was a Fedor one; no, I’m not a nuthugger fan of his! As you might have guessed already, the shirts they want to get rid of so badly were of Affliction Trilogy. So yes, tonight I wore a Fedor vs. Barnett shirt for a show that never happened to see the pay per view tonight. Hey, it’s better than having a Tim Sylvia or a Sokoudjou Affliction shirt, I say.
Anyway, it was a fun time watching it on a giant screen again. The picture was great and there were no production snafu’s. The crowd was smaller than when I saw UFC 111 at the same location, even with lower ticket prices. But, the crowd enjoyed the show and I have no complaints with them. I managed to enjoy the event myself, despite one TRBL match and some dull moments in some other bouts.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. I just had to make the obvious joke there.

Pat Barry said in several interviews that in his past fights, he never went in for the kill when he knew he hurt his opponents because he lacks that killer instinct. He said he’s not some sort of animal.
Cro Cop vs. Barry
Cro Cop, Submission-3 is still pretty hilarious to me. Like I said a few minutes ago, Barry seemed more interested in continuing his bromance with Cro Cop than win the match. Despite how odd the match ended up being, I enjoyed it, and so did the crowd, believe it or not.
They marked out for Mirko laying it on at the very end and then getting that “submission”, which was more like Barry just giving it up and waved the white flag as it didn’t look like it was hooked in with any sort of tightness. And of course the post-fight interview got many laughs, and his campaigning for Submission of the Night actually worked. I think they gave it to him just for how preposterous it was. I mean, in MMA if you exclude injury submissions or tapout due to strikes, then that was the SECOND time he has ever won via that method in his entire career.
What hurts harder
A dude hitting you, or a dude that you admire hitting you? Logic says they’re the same, but I wonder what Barry would say..

By The Way
To change the subject and to possibly cool down ANGRY cursing Matt Bishop, before they started showing the pay per view on the big screen, it was announced that the next time you can see UFC in that way would be UFC 118. Yes, the show in Boston. It means that you can see both Gray Maynard AND Randy Couture lose in that format… oh wait, uh, I mean Gray and Randy win, right Matt? : )
Next thing you'll know Matt will say he's dissapointed too

Haha. Oh wait, I remember what fight is going to be discussed next. I’m sure that he’s going to get even more enraged after his new boy got bent over by Kampmann.

Also By The Way
Arianny on a giant screen and clear image was a glorious sight. Us people in the theatre got a special message from her where she thanked everyone for being there and she told us you could get all crazy there. Of course, her outfit showed off a nice amount of cleavage and some dude commented, “I like her boobies!” I swear to God, someone said that. Sure, we all agree with that opinion, but what a statement to blurt out.
lol
I don’t have too much to say about the fight except that I thought Thiago would have been more competitive. At least I was pretty impressed with how Martin did standing up and on the ground.

Rothwell vs. Yvel
Oh, I could say a whole lot about this crapfest. I can suddenly understand why this was moved from the Spike broadcast. Imagine how this Fat Guys Getting Tired match would have done there. Talk about NO BUYS, and in fact, negative buys.
The bout was so bad that it ended up being hilarious, those two goofs sucking wind after one round. A tremendously baked Rogan and a more sober Goldberg totally ripping the match apart and proclaiming that a third round would be quite unfortunate-and boy were they ever right. Even the crowd I was with at the theatre were laughing at how rancid the match was and how laughable their cardio was.
Oh well, at least Gilbert came out to “Let Me Clear My Throat” and everyone laughed in a befuddled way when the announcers said that Yvel has a tattoo that says, “Real men don’t eat honey; they ingest bees”. Swear to God, that’s what was said. I now want to read a philosophical book from Gilbert Yvel!
Condit vs. MacDonald
That was a pretty entertaining opener, despite some bad reffing (although I can’t wait to see the (typical) real bad stoppage from that idiot Yves Lavigne on the Spike broadcast, which I taped). If Rory wouldn’t have gassed out… I thought the stoppage was bad as doing it at that point wasn’t needed. It’s not like he was laid out and it obviously needed to be stopped at that point. Doing it after one lukewarm punch to the face was pretty weaksauce.
Speaking of bad reffing, the Pyle vs. Lennox ending, where Pyle had to stick his hands out and inform the idiot local ref that hey, Lennox was Triangle Choked until he blacked out… that was laughable too.
I was actually really hoping Lavigne would mess something up in Yvel v. Rothwell
And Yvel would go crazy and rip off his head or something

Oh, And...
Man, Rogan was pretty bad tonight. If you didn’t hear the commentary, trust me it wasn’t good. He screwed up quite a few times, and even messed up something as easy as Cro Cop’s catchphrase about his right and left legs. C’mon now! He looked like he was so stoned he was baked. I wondered where he was before the show. Then, I heard Rory after the fight state to the world that his after-party would be at a location named “The Cannabis Lounge”, and I was like, “Oh, THAT is where Joe has been the entire day.” Lord knows you know that he’s back there toking a bowl and enjoying the party with MacDonald.
I saw Rogan on Attack of the Show earlier this week
And that man’s eyes… wow.

Is this episode a troll competition?
Matt’s adoration of Kampmann, Forrest’s love of Evan Dunham and Neil’s blind faith in Sherk?

FCW
I’ll close out my night here by mentioning something from last night.
Sorry EVeezy, but here’s a pro pertaining to pro wrestling. Friday night, before I went to a club in downtown Orlando and had my fair share of alcoholic beverages there, I went to an FCW show in Orlando. I’ve been to a few before, but this one was pretty bad overall. However, some noteworthy things happened, besides the fact that I got to hang out with a certain group of people for the first time in a few months.
Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and his son Richie were both there signing autographs. I know you old-school wrestling fans will be jealous of that fact. Yes, Richie is a pro wrestler himself and yes, he was the baby that Ricky carried out for some big matches in the late 80’s.
Kaval (i.e. Senshi, Low-Ki) wrestled against "Smackdown Superstar" Tyler Reks and that was by far the best match on the card.
They had an FCW magazine and in it, they had a picture of Tom Lawlor posing next to a random dude. They ID’ed him as "UFC fighter". In the future they can’t do that, as apparently "UFC" is banned from the WWE. Why, I don’t know, but then again I don’t know why what happened with "Daniel Bryan" happened, but that’s a whole nother can of worms that I better not open.
Oh, and King Mo was there and saved someone from a postmatch attack… oh wait a minute, that was Titus O’Neil, nevermind.
That sounds like one of those irrational things some people have
Like a fear of clowns, that sort of thing. I mean, I find things like sexual deviants disturbing, and besides the real/not-real aspect of it, there’s not a whole lot seperating pro wrasslin’ and MMA.. and if you look at Barry/Cro-Cop, then there’s even LESS seperating the two.

Wow – I don’t even know what to say to that response. Concern for grown men who get pumped about watching other grown men PRETEND to fight each doesn’t exactly seem irrational. I mean, I can understand kids who enjoy wrestling (heck, I even liked it when I was a little kid). However, once you reach the age where you can completely understand that it’s fake it may be time to move along. It’s like some old dude hanging out at the local playground – once you get to a certain age it just becomes a little creepy.
And, besides the real/not real aspect of it? That’s a pretty big component and I’m not sure why you would disregard that aspect of it and search for other differences. That’s like saying, despite the fact that one is fake and the other is real, a toy gun and a real gun are the same thing. I guess following this logic we can say you’re correct – Barry/Cro Cop were just like pro wrestling except for the fact that they actually punched each other in the face.
Ok, so then this is a case where you just despise fiction
I’ll be sure to call your cable/satellite company and have them block everything except for History channel, ESPN and FSN, not to mention bar you from entering any movie theater in North America. Because hey, dudes throwing fake punches on WWE programming isn’t any more real than the fake fights in movies.
Seriously though, the fact that you get so up in arms about it kindof disturbs ME. If you don’t dig it, that’s fine; I don’t like sports (college or otherwise), but I don’t get red in the face when Forrest brings up Auburn, or talk about what awful people their athletes are when Matt slobers on MSU. For the way that I see your reaction(s) to pro wrasslin’, go look up “The lady doth protest too much, methinks”

You make a valid point but it still doesn’t change my distaste for professional wrestling or its adult fans. Also, I’m not sure what you mean by the Hamlet quote. Do you think I view adult wrestling fans with suspicion because I, myself, am a closeted wrestling fan?
My original comment was honest but meant more as a joke towards Blair. I wasn’t aware that professional wrestling was so near and dear to your heart.
Like I said, it’s cool if you don’t like it, but the idea that you’d be disturbed or harbor distaste for someone who watches it.. that’s pretty whack man. It’s not like they’re child molestors or do anything wrong (at least not all of them), although certainly people who buy in to the idea that it’s “real” are obviously a little dense. I still watch it Monday nights, probably more out of habit than anything, but it’s also a good excuse to round up friends and hit up the bar for a night. Listening to the Wrestling Observer podcasts (best source of MMA news too, coincidentally) also helps.
I don’t think you’re a closet wrasslin’ fan, but it’s pretty wild to see someone get so down on something that doesn’t impact anyone, you know? It makes me think “why would someone be so vigorously against something that’s so mundane?” Like, people who are down on BP right now, yeah I get it. People who hate democrats/republicans (whoever they oppose), I get that too (although that’s another topic all together). But did pro wrasslin’ do anything to you, or someone in your family that led to this ill-will?
