Report: Shinya Aoki vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri At DREAM 15
From MMAJunkie:
Shinya Aoki (23-5 MMA, 9-2 DREAM) looks to make his first successful title defense when the DREAM lightweight champion meets Tatsuya Kawajiri (26-5-2 MMA, 6-1 DREAM) at DREAM.15.
DREAM officials today announced the July 10 title fight, which headlines the overseas card.
This is a fight that should have happened a long time ago, but now it appears to finally be coming to fruition. It's signficant in that these are the two highest ranking Japanese lightweights out there. Aoki has dominated the Japanese scene the past few years and a win over Kawijiri would confirm him as the best lightweight in Japan. Kawajiri on the other hand had dominated the scene as well, with his only loss over the past couple of years coming to Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. Aoki made the trek over to America and got destroyed back in April against Gilbert Melendez. If Kawajiri can get past Aoki, I would love to see DREAM send Kawajiri over to America to see what he can do. He has a more well rounded skillset, and may be able to have some success. What say you?

I wouldnt quite say Aoki has dominated the Japanese scene
Mach beat the shit out of him last year…
But this is a great fight. Hopefully Aoki’s time with Team Cesar Gracie has diversified his game.
