I find it interesting that some of these guys looked at the Prime Time episodes, compared their training methods and believed that how they trained would be this huge factor. Not to mention there’s a number of things that are probably edited or not filmed.
The whole argument comparing Evans’ superior training method to Rampage’s old-school ways kind of ignores history.
From what I recall, in boxing there were a numbre of champions that strictly stuck to a very simple training routine. Hit the mits, run every morning, push-ups and pull-ups, just the basics.
Yeah I know this is MMA and blah, blah, blah, blah. But there are some guys like Roy Nelson and Fedor Emelianenko who do not employ the whole fancy-pants Olympic caliber routines.
End note, I forgot who said it, but a UFC fighter, maybe the esteemed Chael Sonnen said, if your’e training for a fight, then just throw punches, roll, grapple do your thing . . . all of that other stuff does really help you when you’re getting punched in the face. (Well except for conditioning.)

"I'm not afraid to say it: I'm not a brawler, and I'm not a coward. I'm not going to trade punch one-for-one with a guy. I'm going to hit the guy and not get hit. That's a smart way to fight." - GSP
Greg Jackson said on Sherdog’s radio the other day that if they were doing something in training that they didn’t want the cameras to show, they could opt to ask them to leave…I’m almost positive Rampage did more than hit mits and run

yea
I mean…who cares what training methods you use…each camp will be different….it all boils down to this…
-Rashad avoiding Rampage’s power….using his speed advantage and wrestling to grind Rampage down and win a decision or TKO him late.
-Rampage…will want to use his superior boxing skills…and stop the takedown to KTFO Rashad….
It’s pretty cut and dry.

what was funny was when one of Rashad’s trainers was like he’d been watching Rampage’s training on Primetime and they’re not impressed or something like that…lol
like Rampage’s trainers would say: “Rampage, all you have to do is throw punches like you’re hitting mits and if that doesn’t work, use the running we’ve been practicing so much…”

I really do not see Rashad handling Rampage in the wrestling department like he did Thiago Silva. I will be surprised if Evans takes down ’Page down at will.
I really imagine a lot of clinching involved against the cage, dirty boxing, elbows and Rampage trying to chase down the faster fighter.
BTW, Marvin Eastman is on point.
You got to overwhelm him in an attack with leg kicks, punches and movement to beat him, and then take him down, a la Beastman/Rampage #1 or Shogun/Rampage. Don’t stand in front of him and fight him; his jaw is hard as steel.

The cool thing about a fight like this where you have people firmly entrenched on either side is that, on Sunday morning, there will be some ecstatic folks and some upset folks. I know it may sound weird to view that as a positive but it means that people care. That’s good for any sport, especially a growing one. I like when there are occasionally fights that folks get emotionally invested in.
While I pick Rampage to win via (T)KO in the 1st or 2nd round. I’m not mad if Rashad Evans wins. That would be huge, kind of an upset in my book. Congrats to whoever wins.

Hard as hell to predict. A prime Rampage got this, let me get that out of the way first – but I question his heart/dedication/motivation.
I predict that Rampage wins via decision (I think we’ll see the Rampage that showed up for the Griffin fight – one that is hesitant to get off and won’t check leg kicks, but that has power in his hands and a strong chin). No doubt will I be cheering for Rashad though and I won’t be surprised no matter what goes down.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"

This is the thing though…
You can’t really question this guy’s heart…dude is a straight up fighter…like…I would want him in a dark alley with me type dude…I can’t say the same for Rashad nahmean…the knee’s he ate from Wandy…the asswhipping from Shogun…the leg kicks from Griffin….dude was still there….that was all heart….
As far as motivation….well…Rashad has thrown gasoline all over that…
Dedication…well…he might not be the most dedicated fighter to training…but…dude has been pretty damn successful while not reaching his potential….

Yeah but back then, he didn’t say shit about it. He shrugged his shoulders and got down to the nitty gritty. Now he’s turned into a weiny ass crybaby – I question his whole mentality because of it.

ehh
probably did…just didn’t hear about it because he was in Japan…lol.

Iunno directly after the Forrest fight it was all “Forrest whooped my ass, congrats” and that… then after the “energy drink” bender he’s been talking down on everyone. Complaining all over the place.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
I took that as him being sarcastic...at the press conference..he was like he though he won..etc...
either way…damn it…can’t wait for tomorrow!

!["I remember one other thing he [Rashad] was doing - he was punching me in my knee! It was weird because I had suffered a real bad knee injury in camp but we kept it secret, we didn’t say anything about it and we didn’t even tell the UFC."
"I told my doctor and that was it, he helped me out but I was going to back out of the fight. The only reason I didn’t back out was the fight had been so hyped and I didn’t want to disappoint the fans. Why was he punching me in the knee though? That’s kind of weird - did he find out about the injury? I don’t know. Its weird."
