MMA For Real May Light Heavyweight MMA Rankings
| Fighter | Last Ranking |
| 1. Shogun Rua | 1 |
| 2. Lyoto Machida | 2 |
| 3. Rashad Evans | 3 |
| 4. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira | 6 |
| 5. Forrest Griffin | 4 |
| 6. Thiago Silva | 7 |
| 7. Rampage Jackson | 8 |
| 8. Luiz Cane | 9 |
| 9. King Mo Lawal | UR |
| 10. Gegard Mousasi | 5 |
See...I told yall fools Shogun was the #1 LHW! Man, I hate that Rampage has been out of action for so long...he should really be in that #2, #3 spot. He'll be there if he beats Rashad this month. King Mo Lawal makes his first appearance. It was a close call between Jones, Bader, and Lawal. But Lawal beat the higher ranked opponent so he gets the nod, and Mousasi drops a considerable amount.

Thiago Silva shouldn’t be that high…

Silva has two losses, and he never beat anyone as good as who forrest's beaten.

Seriously, Forrest needs to stop being considered being a great fighter
Dude is OK, but what has he ever really done besides choke out a banged up Shogun? That was a good win for him, and you can’t take it away from him, but that’s about the only feather in his hat that he really earned besides decisioning Monson all those years ago.

He did NOT beat Rampage
Getting a decision from judges who gave it to him out of pitty is an outright joke.
As for Sonnen, I like him, but I ain’t ranking him. This is a guy who is 0-3 against Jeremy Horn. And one of those was a TKO.

I don’t honestly understand how people act like Forrest Griffin’s win over Rampage Jackson was the greatest robbery of all time.Forrest won the second round 10-8,and the fifth round 10-9.The third round was incredibly close, and could have gone either way.I don’t get how people this it’s some sort of robbery. They want to act like it’s Beebe-Easton or something. If the decision had gone to Rampage, everyone would be crying about how Forrest got robbed.Nobody is every happy with these things.
If you want to lay blame on someone, lay it on Rampage. The man has great boxing skill and sick KO power, yet he couldn’t put away Forrest Griffin over the course of a 25 minute fight? And let it go to an ultra-competitve decision?I thought Forrest was garbage according to you people.

Greatest robbery?
No. But then again, neither was Shogun vs Machida, but it was still a bad decision. It’s not that he’s garbage, but he’s not “great”, especially not as much as people want to think. There’s this nostalgia about him being “the guy” in the Griffin vs Bonnar fight, and you can’t take that moment away from him, but his success as a fighter has been over either awful competition or damaged men. Tito and Shogun: damaged. Ramirez, Bonnar, Sinosic: pretty awful.

I think there are more people who think he’s awful than people who think he’s great.I’ve never encountered anyone who thought he was anything more than an entertaining brawler who could occasionaly pull off a big upset.
Which is sad, because he’s done very well against the competition that’s been presented to him.I think he gets a lot of hate because he was the poster boy for Zuffa for a long, long time, and people love to hate the poster boy.

I’d rec this but the fight wasn’t close, I still can’t figure out why people claim that it was aside from 1 round Griffin dominated that fight. He took Rampage’s legs from him, out struck him standing and even took him down it was complete domination ala Shogun’s first fight with Machida. Seriously i’d suggest people re-watch the fight and see that it wasn’t close and Forrest won that fight going away.

Then ya gotta drop Lesnar way down in the rankings too

I could write a small dissertation on that but I’m going to rationalize it down to two words: it sucks.
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
I don’t think it’d be irrational to put Velasquez and Carwin ahead of Lesnar

by Anthony Pace on May 19, 2010 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Absolutely not.
But since Carwin and Lesnar are set to fight with Cain taking on the winner I just shrug my shoulders and go “eh, it’ll sort itself out”
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
Yeah, that’s pretty much it.

I'm still not sold on Lawal I really didn't think he looked that good against Gegard
That doesn’t say mush about Mousasi either, and I know your not supposed to do it but Andy should be on their as well
by doonerthesooner on May 19, 2010 3:35 PM EDT reply actions
They're both overrated
King Mo is overrated because he beat an overrated fighter. Mousasi is far from his potential, but King Mo needs to get with it since he is currently at his athletic peak (age 29)

Yeah I think Bader would kill Mo if they were to fight,
Shit I’d probably take Phil Davis over Mo and I’d take either over Mousasi right now.
by doonerthesooner on May 19, 2010 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I’d like to see some sharpened boxing from Bader to go with that power right hand, but yeah he’s a stud. And i’m loving Davis’s Wrestling/Jitz combo so far

Props (again)
for sticking with Shogun last time.
Forrest wants to hang on to Kelvin’s 5 spot so dude goes and fakes an injury.
Are you a big Luiz Arthur Cane fan or something?

is that sarcasm?
And Cain is kinda iffy, I like bader in the top ten myself

he kinda got high in my ranking by default…I knew he was overrated…and called that Mo would beat him.

Rogerio is ranked WWWAAAAYYYYY too high IMHO.The best guy he’s beat in years is Cane, and Cane doesn’t even belong in the Top Ten.He got there in the first place from beating Sokoudjou, remember? Then he fought tooth and nail with Steve Cantwell for three rounds.
The love for Rogerio always boggles my mind.I really question how many fights of his people have seen.I’m convinced people have seen him knock out Cane, and maybe the Shogun fight, and that’s it.Maybe the Sokoudjou KO.He’s really not that good. He’s a solid fighter, but nothing spectacular. But think he’s some kind of world beater who’s going to make a run for the belt.Frankly,I wouldn’t be all that suprised if he didn’t look all that hot against Jason Brilz.People think he’s just going to mop the floor with the guy,and that’s never really been Rogerio’s MO.
But he plunks one guy in the UFC,so he must be a killer, right?

he's not ranked waaaaaaaaay too high
#1…Rampage’s inactivity puts the entire division off just a tad…Rogerio has three losses….one of which he has avenged…the other a fluke loss more than likely…the other loss was a life and death match with the #1 LHW in the world at the time in Rua….who else deserves to be #4….lol

I think you overvalue Rampage’s inactivity, espically considering he has a fight scheduled in under two weeks.I’d have Rampage at four,Forrest at five,Rogerio at six,Mo at seven,Mousasi at eight,Thiago Silva at nine, and someone like Bader,Cane or Couture at ten.

Now Mo at 6 is crazy,
Couture and Bader and Jones could all take Mo. Rampage’ inactivity is a big deal especially because he’s about to loose to Rashad. ( I try to stay kinda reserved on picking this fight but that really takes all the fun out of it)
by doonerthesooner on May 20, 2010 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe Bader, MAYBE Jones
But not Couture. Too old, too slow, and everything he has is overshadowed by Mo in too big of a way.

Bader?
Bader’s basically a worse version of Mo in all areas with less boxing and athletic ability. Jon Jones has been overrated to the point where he’s a demigod type figure- dude still has plenty of holes.
by Forrest Lynn on May 20, 2010 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions
That's the hype machine for you
Beat a couple guys in entertaining fashion, and you’re the second coming. If Jones had taken them all down and positionaly dominated them for 15 minutes each and won with 30-27 scorecards, nobody would be saying he’s the second coming.
Sad thing is,he’s a decent prospect, but the hype from fans who don’t truely understand the sport is going to end up getting him pushed into a fight he doesn’t belong in.And he’ll loose, and loose bad,and people will cry about it and say he was never any good to begin with.

I had Mo at 7,FWIW
And rankings aren’t about who you could beat in some theoretical fantasy matchup-it’s about what you’ve done. And Mo beat a legit Top Ten guy.And the bottom half of the Top Ten isn’t that strong anyway.
