Full UFC 114 Rampage vs. Evans fight card officially announced
Promoted To Frontpage From Fanposts By Kelvin Hunt
MAIN CARD
- Rashad Evans vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
- Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
- Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller
- Todd Duffee vs. Mike Russow
- John Hathaway vs. Diego Sanchez.
PRELIMINARY CARD
- Dong Hyun Kim vs. Amir Sadollah
- Efrain Escudero vs. Dan Lauzon
- Melvin Guillard vs. Thiago Tavares
- Luiz Cane vs. Cyrille Diabate
- Joe Brammer vs. Aaron Riley
- Jesse Forbes vs. Ryan Jensen
Some interesting fights on this card now, from the bottom all of the way up. This event, scheduled to take place on May 29th, will be taking place at the MGM in Vegas. One of the more notable mentions about this card is the location and time slot of Bisping's fight as well as his "level" of opponent (referring to star-power or, to an extent, lack there of) in Dan Miller. WIth Miller coming off of two losses against moderately notable opponents and without a lot of big names in his past, this is likely the UFC taking the opportunity to rebuild their shining star from the UK.
The Forrest and Rogerio fight will also be one of note. This may give us an opportunity to see Griffin be forced to work on the ground an amount more. Though Little Nog does have decisions in his background, I tend to give the edge to Griffin as the fight gets into later rounds. All in all though, it will be nice to see Little Nog fight someone of some type of higher caliber again.
There will also be a lot of man in the cage at some point when heavyweights Russow and Duffee meet together. This fight will be a clash of styles. Both men have a string of wins in a notable fashion with Duffee's all coming by TKO or KO and Russow's primarily coming out of submission. These are two gentlemen who have a lot of potential to accomplish things within the heavyweight division. Look for the winner of this fight to be groomed to reach the next tier of competition, which will be relatively easy considering their past opponents, quickly.
One disappointing aspect of this new card is that the Leben/Simpson fight has been moved off of the card.
There are several more fights on this card that can be discussed. WHat are your thoughts?
What are your picks for these fights as far as the bonuses go?
Fight of the Night?
KO of the Night?
Sub of the Night?

Card is dope..not to have a title fight..
Of course…looking forward to the main event the most…..I’m looking to see how Forrest and Cane bounce back after getting destroyed in their last fights…also wondering if Guillard can finally beat a BJJ guy without getting subbed…also wondering how Duffee will look coming off the injury….
KO of the night will come from Evans/Jackson hopefully..
Sub of the night…Tavares if there is one..
Fight of the night….I’m saw Griffin/Nog

WHy don't you count the TIto win?
I thought it was a pretty dominate performance by Griffin. I gave the 2nd round to Tito but the Judge that scored it 30-27 Griffin wasn’t that far off. Is this a knock on Tito?

A UD win over a broken man that gassed out at the 9 minute mark isn’t really what I’d call dominant. If Griffin took ME to a decision, I don’t think anyone would count that either.

To be fair,Tito is extremely difficult to finish
With the exception of getting choked by Mezger in his first night as a pro,he’s only been finished three times in his career-when he tapped due to exhaustion against Frank Shamrock, and getting TKO’ed twice by Chuck Liddell.Couture and Belfort both had this man mounted and pounded the bejesus out of him,and he survived.Say what you will about him,but he’s tough as nails. And that’s coming from someone who generally can’t stand Tito.

He's tough
but he offered nothing in that fight….I mean the third round was a joke.

He offered nothing for 14:30 of the Machida fight, but he’s still the only man to put Machida in serious danger-if he hadn’t been greedy and had stuck with the triangle instead of trying to turn it into an armbar,he would have put him to sleep.

Call me crazy.......
…….but I think Forrest outhustles Lil Nog to a decision win. I think he uses the same game plan Shogun used back in 2005 against Minotoro-take him down a lot, stay busy on top. Nog has never been really difficult to take down, and Forrest has a pretty decent top game and good sub defense. I think he learned from the Anderson fight that he can’t just go in there and swing wild with a superior striker. He has to fight smart. If he fights smart against Minotoro, he can get one of the biggest wins of his career. If he goes out there and starts winging punches at him, he’s going to get KTFO and will end up fighting the Chuck Liddell’s and James Toney’s of the world for the rest of his career.

Well, how else would Forrest really win a fight against someone with a good BJJ background? The guy has no punching power (feels weird saying that about someone at 205), and despite his BJJ being “under-rated”, I haven’t seen him get a sub on someone worth a damn besides an absolutely exhausted Shogun.
I mean, Jardine TKO’d him. Rashad Evans did it too, and even though Anderson Silva is world-class, for as great as people think Griffin is it was one of Silva’s quicker KTFO’s. Griffin is good enough to get a UD on top ten competition, but when the guy gets popped in the face he falls down and flails his arms around like a muppet, which usually just leads to more strikes and a (T)KO.

I pretty much agree with a culmination of all of you...
I think that if Forrest tries to stand and strike sloppily or gets on the ground and tries to do some rolling around instead of hammering down on his guy and just controlling him, he is definitely going to lose. The only way I see Forrest winning this fight is by decision.
I also agree that if he doesn’t (somehow) win this fight, he is going start being looked over, even more so than he already is, and will start getting lined up with lesser opponents (for a while atleast). I find it hard to believe that Forrest is out of his prime or has reached the top of his peak. He has started maturing too much on too many different levels for me to truly believe that is the case (though you couldn’t tell at the Silva fight).

ehh
I don’t know think he’s passed him prime….it’s moreso of him not having KO power….a sorta suspect chin…and suspect takedown defense….while not having any wrestling ability of his own.

It's not about being past his prime
It’s about him getting real wins against cans, and then getting some UD wins over decent competition.

I would say lucky
He fought Shogun when Shogun wasn’t Shogun…and fought Rampage after Rampage was lazy and not training after going on TUF….

eh
Forrest has never really had great knockout power. He has 17 wins and only 3 have come from kos or tkos and only one of those was an actual knockout, others coming from ground and pound and a cut. All of the rest of his wins coming from submission (oddly enough) or decision. That is why he is a threat if the fight goes into the 3rd round, his durability. ANd you can say that he has a sorta suspect chin I suppose but his losses, by knockout excluding TKO, came from Anderson Silva, an elite striker right now, and a head kick.
I have always said that Griffin is, at the least, mildly over-rated but when it gets deep into the rounds he is definitely a threat because he will throw until the final bell which can always steal a decision.

It's not Forrests fault if his opponents don't show up to fight
Fact of the matter is he has wins over 2 of the divisions top 5, is he gonna beat either one of them again probably not but that doesn’t keep the W’s off his record
nah
Shogun was not top 5 when he beat him…and he lost to Rampage….don’t care what nobody says..HE LOST…lol.

Can someone explain to me
What exactly makes Forrest Griffin so great of a fighter besides not getting utterly KTFO’d? The guy has a chin, but when it gets hit he falls down and flops around. Cardio doesn’t make anyone a good fighter people, please get off this dudes nuts!

Please explain to me
What makes him so horrible?Because he got knocked out by Rashad and Anderson Silva? There’s some sort of shame in that?
Are we forgetting that he beat Shogun and Rampage in two classic fights? The fight with Rampage is one of the best 5 round title fights in UFC history, right up there with the first Couture-Rizzo fight. That will earn you some love with the fans.

He's not horrible, but he's not nearly as good as everyone makes him out to be
All these people have this overwhelming nut huggery for Griffin, but he’s not that great, if even very good. I mean, people gripe about Fitch not finishing anyone, but Fitch has four finishes compared to Griffin’s three (UFC records). Don’t get me wrong, he was involved in one of the UFC’s most important fights (don’t confuse important with “greatest”), but besides that he’s just not very good.
I think the best way to sum up Forrest Griffin’s greatness is that he’s 3-4 against anyone worth a damn in the UFC, and one of those losses was a TKO loss to Keith “awful hands” Jardine.

People like him because he's entertaining
Don’t forget, people love Clay Guida too.At least Forrest beat some elite guys and was the #1 guy in his weight class for a minute. He always shows up and puts on an entertaining fight. And considering the limited tools he has,he’s done pretty damn well considering the competition he’s faced. Most forget that he was making Rashad look stupid in that fight for the first ten minutes, and then he got a little to lazy on a kick and paid dearly for it.
Personaly,I don’t understand the love for Thiago Silva. The best guy he’s ever beat is Keith Jardine, yet people want him in the Top Ten.The man fought life and death with Antonio Mendes three fights ago for cryin out loud!

Oh yeah, people love Clay Guida, but they don’t think he’s a world beater. These “elite guys” that Griffin beat? Subbing an injured Shogun is what it is (can’t take it away from him, but let’s not give him too much credit), and he did what he had to in order to beat Rampage, which wasn’t even that good of a decision. What else has he done? The wins this guy has over decent competition in the UFC is the product of broken fighters (Ortiz, Rua) and a poor decision.

C'mon
Now you’re just hating. You can’t take a win away from the guy because the other man didn’t show up in shape.Forrest showed up to fight,Rua didn’t.That’s the fight game.Forrest had a blown out shoulder in that fight, but everyone forgets that. That’s part of the reason he got stuck on TUF with Rampage-he was on the shelf for most of a year after the Rua fight due to having his shoulder surgery after the fight.
The decision against Rampage was good.He won three rounds of that fight,no matter how you want to cut it,and he won the second round 10-8.It was a great fight, and he deserved the win.
I don’t think anyone out there really thinks Forrest is a world beater. He is what he is.He’s this generation’s Randy Couture. He’s going to beat some top guys some of the time, and other times he’s going to loose. He’ll win a couple,he’ll loose a couple, just like Randy. He’s never going to be that dominant guy like an Anderson Silva or a Machida, but there’s only so many of those to go around. He’s a solid, entertaining fighter who can beat some good guys every once in awhile and put on a good show.

Maybe you're right
But for being a top-ten (or even top-five depending on who you ask) fighter, he’s pretty awful.

He’s a whole helluva lot better than Thiago Silva,or even Luis Cane, and everybody gets their panties wet over the very mention of either of those two cats.At least Forrest has accomplished something in his career, unlike those two.

never been impressed with him….but…I am on the Luis Cane bandwagon….even though he got destroyed by Lil Nog.

Well, Thiago Silva put down Keith Jardine, not the other way around. He’s nothing special right now, but he’s also only had two fights against top-ten talent.
Luis Cane.. he’s only got the one loss against a killer (you know, the guy that’s gonna wreck Griffin), but it’s not like he’s had any chance to prove it.

Luis Cane fought tooth and nail for three rounds with Steve Cantwell,a man who went 1-2 with Brian Stann.
And why, pray tell,is Minotoro going to “wreck” Forrest Griffin? Why,because he knocked down Luis Cane?A fight that a lot of people expected him to loose?Because he looked extremely average in going to a decision against Moise Rimbon?Because he looked slow and out of shape against Vladdy?Because it took him 14 minutes to put away Dion Staring,a guy that’s not good enough to carry Forrest Griffin’s jock strap?

What’s Griffin going to do? What could he possibly do? He’s got no power in his hands, and he’s going up against a Nogueira, ie legit BJJ skillz*. The guy has a sub-par chin, and he’s fighting a guy with good hands and good power. The best case is that he leg kicks his way to a decision, and that’s a looong time for him to go without getting cracked in the face. As hard as he works, you can’t train a chin, and as much as people want to think how great he is, he’s going to be 1-3 after 114. And it ain’t getting any prettier for him, unless they give him a gimme fight.

Jardine has KO power
The majority of his wins are by stoppage. He also dropped and badly hurt Chuck,Vera and Rampage.
Jardine has proven to be a better fighter than Sokoudjou, with more quality wins over better opposition, though they are both seriously flawed. The fact that Sokodjou was stopped by Minowa is just laughable. At least Jardine is loosing to good fighters,in his own weight class.Sokoudjou got KTFO by a C level 185 pounder.

I'm not arguing who the better fighter is
Jardine doesn’t really have KO power….all of his TKO wins are from a series of punches…when he dropped Chuck…Chuck was up pretty damn fast…
