UFC 110 Replay To Counter-Program Strikeforce On CBS Event
Spike TV made the announcement today that a replay of the UFC 110 event headlined by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez would go heads up with the Strikeforce on CBS show that will air on April 17th. The UFC replay will begin at 9pm ET, which is the same time that the Strikeforce event will air on CBS. The UFC 110 event took place in Sydney, Australia this past February. It also featured notable fights between Wanderlei Silva/Michael Bisping and Joe Stevenson/George Sotiropoulos.
I wrote a few weeks ago that the UFC wouldn't counter-program with a LIVE show, but would more than likely air footage on Spike TV in hopes of drawing away some viewers from Strikeforce.
The UFC PPV replays have found success on Spike TV. The UFC counter-program the Strikeforce: "Miami" event in January with fights from UFC 107 on Spike TV. The programming garned 2.2 million viewers on Spike TV. If the UFC can pull off similar numbers on April 17th, the Strikeforce event could certainly lose some viewers.
