White 'embarrassed' by Silva's performance
Anderson Silva's performance upset Dana White so much that he left the fight after the fourth round, he told MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani.
Said White:
"I left in the fourth round and gave the belt to Ed (Soares) and said, 'You put (the belt) on him, I'm not doing it.' ...
"I don't know why he acted the way he did. What's even more baffling is that he feels that he doesn't owe the fans an apology. Yet I'm apologizing. I didn't go in and fight like a jackass for five rounds. I didn't do what he did tonight. I'm embarrassed and I feel like I should apologize to the fans and I feel like I owe the fans one."

i’m going to bed. i’m going to wait before i try to assess how much lack of respect i have for Anderson Silva as a “professional” prizefighter…..and his utter lack of respect for another professional in his trade.
i’ll say this…if i NEVER saw him fight again it would be fine.

He still a great fighter when he wants to be. This was probably his last time in the main event of a PPV though.
Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't
help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...
no its not
dosent matter if white dosent like how he faught or not, he will main event PPV’s as long as he is the champ, when silva vs. someone for the title is the only title fight on the card its gonna be the main event, “oh here is silva vs. belfort, and next its tyson griffin vs. graymaynard in our main event.:” never

WTF did they expect?
Wasn’t Einstein’s definition of insanity repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result? Why do they keep flicking noncontenders into the spider’s web who’ve had they’re asses kicked by contenders who’ve had they’re asses kicked( by silva)? The fact that Patrick Cote was ever approved to fight Silva was ridiculous! Silva is IMO the most exciting fighter to watch when he’s fighting someone that he feels threatened by. Silva is an eccentric, probably egotistical dude, maybe not too different from certain other champions. But white and the matchmaker Joe Silva or whoever absolutly bear responsibility for largely squandering Anderson’s contract to grow interest in mma and put on some of the best fights in UFC history.I guess they tried with Belfort, but Maia was not a credible backup, they should’ve drawn another LHW.
Dana has already said he may be the first champion ever to fight on the pre-lims.
However to be honest, I have a feeling that the UFC is going to lawyer up over the week and find a reason to take the belt off of Silva. He’s pretty much done in the UFC.
i agree on lawyer up
but i was thinking moreso of a burning need to financially penalise him (somehow […i realise its virtually impossible/unwarranted])
i believe they will strip him of the title or just have him vacate it, i think we’ll have Belfort Sonnen for the vacated strapsometime in the next year and Silva either at HW or LHW (for the strap if Silva takes it)

Silva’s ultra-talented, and definitely bored in his weight class…he’s THAT much ahead of everyone else in his division. Having said that, he fought like an ASS that entire fight.
Maia, though, left it all out there. I was already a HUGE Maia fan to begin with, but he just earned a TON more admiration from me. He duked it out with him, even swinging from his knees! I loved it! Maia FTW!

I think this was his way of saying that Demian Maia was beneath him…
"I don't care, hit him with your groin!"
i dont think they will strip anderson of the belt, even though he lost ALOT of fans with this he will comback get 2 or 3 dominate fights under his belt and then everyone will love him again lol. if we judged all the fighters on ONE fight then no one would be a fan of any fighter. look at GSP he is one of the most loved ufc fighters and he has let his last fights go to decision, now mabye he wasnt dancing around like an ass but i would much much much rather watch silva dance around like an ass and then leave it to decision then watch GSP hold some dude in side control for 25 minutes straight.
There is no comparison between how GSP went about finishing Hardy and how Silva did Maia.
None.

Silva remains to reign
Silva is a champ. Maia had no competition for him what so ever. Everyone is saying that silva was dancing around like an ass, and this and that, but who’s to say he can’t do that? He does it because he can back it up and comfortable with what he does. I would rather see him do that and make the fight last, than see he finish off Maia quick in the first round, which he obviously could have done many times.. He wants to put on a show. This is entertainment isn’t it?
It was said that Silva looks up to Muhammad Ali.. Don’t y’all see a resemblance here? Was Ali ever judged on how he would play with his opponents? No, he is still seen as a legend in the Boxing industry. Silva is just that, a legend in the making
Excellent performance Anderson Silva!
Ali was hated in his day
…….and was not looked upon in a good light until he fell ill,and was written about favorably by modern writers in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
Back when he was fighting, people tuned in to see him loose. He was flat out hated.People couldn’t STAND his antics in the ring.Joe Frazier became a national hero for beating him up in their first meeting.

Furthermore.......
…….no one pays $44.95 to see Silva stand there and curse at Demian Maia, and pound the mat. They pay to see him fight.Period.
This isn’t performance art. This is fighting. If you want to act,go join a theater group.

Money
I guess people would say they got their money’s worth if he beat him in the first minute of the fight, WHICH HE COULD HAVE DONE. Thats what it sounds like. He finished off Forest Griffin pretty quick, but that wasn’t a championship fight. I don’t understand how this is a disappointment.
well
when you buy tickets to a fight, MLB, NFL, NBA or any major sporting event. You pay to see the best in the world…you expect that athlete to give you their 100% best….it’s like ordering something at a Japanese restaurant….and then you real good and hungry….and they bring out the wrong order….you get madd than a mofo cause that ain’t what you paid for.

no disrespect but.......
You guys are crazy if u think they’ll take away the belt from a (proven) champion on one performance.I think this is true prejudice at work……I compare it to our current presidency.when bush and every other president before him were in office MISTAKES WERE MADE,but never has so much hatred been generated until obama was in office. It is simply the first chance for the loser party to throw a stone so guess what….they throw real hard!! I was way more bored during gsp’s last fight and not one negative thing was said by anyone!!Its B.S. and just for the record I am calling dana white prejudice not towards african americans but brazilian fighters. And one other thing…..how is Demian M. dropping to the ground every two seconds any different from silva moving away from a hit.Respect or no respect Anderson is the best and did win the fight.no one said u have to be a nice guy its all part of his game, all this talk of taking away his belt is just hatred at work…….yes he could’ve done more but he still whooped the guy enough in the first two rounds to win the fight.just compare they’re faces at the end of the fight and there’s no argument………
