My final pre-show thoughts
Is cardio a factor? Carwin vs Mir probably won’t matter. Mir’s extra weight will be bad long-run, but I see this fight ending within 10min one way or another. It WILL matter in GSP vs Hardy, because as Hardy gets more tired he’s going to be more susceptible to subs and getting bullied on the ground. I still think if Carwin shows the striking defence he has in the past, he’s gonna go down fast, then get finished with a sub.
Rory Markham weighing in at 177 may be bad news for Diaz. Diaz didn’t look like he cut an ounce, and with Markham soaking the water weight back, he’s probably going to be well north of 185. Diaz has awful wrestling with the dudes at 155, and now he’ll essentially be fighting a middlweight.
Lastly, this will easily be the highest profile ass-whupping that Ben Saunders has endured. Big ups for taking the fight B, but as much as people speak to the contrary loses do in fact matter.

I won’t be able to comment on the show as it’s going on, as I actually plan on seeing it on the big screen. That’s right, I’ll be at a movie theatre in Orlando to watch UFC’s debut in this format. Sure, I could drive a shorter amount of miles to see it at a bar (and enjoy a cerveza or two) and it’ll be cheaper than 20 bucks plus concessions, but I’ll at least have comfy seats, a great image to look at, and while I doubt too many people will be intoxicated by the time they enter the alcohol-free building, it should still be a lively crowd. I should be able to comment on how that experience was in the LOR post-show thread late tonight.
Please do!
We’ve been pretty interested in how that stuff works in a theater, in terms of presentation and atmosphere!

Sure can do.
I hope there’s no glitches for this first time affair, or if there is, it’s only real minor stuff. I mean, the only time I’ve seen a sporting event at a movie theatre was back in early ‘09 when some joints were showing the BCS Championship Game (that’s the biggest college football game of the year, Neil) in 3D. I had to make a long drive to south of Tampa to watch that, but I enjoyed the experience, despite a few glitches. The biggest one of which was that you had to turn your glasses upside down in order for the 3D to work properly! I hope there’s no problem like that at tonight’s showing.

Not an entertaining fight at all. Still, 21-1 in his last 22 (12-1 in the UFC). Welterweights that criticize him, just remember what they say in football when fans complain about running up the score: If you don’t like what you see, do something about it.
Maybe he should do something about it.
Like learning to pass guard or develop a punching arsenal. Screw Jon Fitch.

Kelvin, forgot to mention this yesterday after intermission. Best moment of the night when Hermes Franca was at the bar I overheard this bit of awkwardness as the music blared loudly:
Hermes Franca: (in strong Brazilian accent) I’d like a rum and coke.
Lady with thick Southern accent: A WHATTTT???
Heremes Franca: Rum and coke, please.
Lady with thisck Southern accent: I can’t understand ye!!!!
Hermes and company just walk away laughing.
Good times!
