Spike to Air Two UFC on Versus Prelim Fights Prior To UFC Primetime Show

MMA fighting has learned that the Spike TV is planning to air two prelims from this past weekends UFC on VS event.
Clay Guida earned the Submission of the Night award at UFC on Versus 1 Sunday night, and Brendan Schaub won a first-round TKO that was by all accounts very impressive, and I had been meaning to write something about how disappointing it was that neither of those fights was televised. Now I don't have to.
Spike announced on Tuesday that it will televise Guida's win over Shannon Gugerty and Schaub's win over Chase Gormley at 9PM on Wednesday as part of a new installment of UFC Unleashed
This is a great use of the prelims. One of the most under utilized asset the UFC has is their prelim fights and normally they could only be seen by accessing the UFC vault. Clay Guida is a well known and popular fighter who draws people when he fights on pay-per-view, so it only makes sense to have one of his never before seen fights on free tv.
One of the big downfalls from a free on tv show is the commercial breaks eat up so much time that it cuts into time that could have been used for prelim fights. That is the nature of the beast when airing something on television, you need the money from those commercials. Strikeforce has yet to fully comprehend that some people would love to see an extra fight or two if they have time. Instead of showing fights, Coker and company jump off air or hope to fill the time slot by plugging it full of commercials. I hope they start to do a half hour show before ultimate fight nights show casing one prelim fight. Thoughts?

Sweet!
I was hoping to see the Guida and Schaub fights, and was dissapointed that they didn’t put them on, especially since Vs is so notorious for running well over their alloted timeslot.

![Dana White states that if James Irvin stays with the UFc it will not be at middleweight.
"No more 185(-pound fights) for him," White told MMAjunkie.com. "He didn't look good. I think he's got a lot of scar tissue in his face under his eyes. That was sticking out more than his eyeballs were. He didn't look good [at weigh-ins]."
"I'm a huge James Irvin fan," he said after the fight. "I'm a fan of the guy; I really am. He's had some of the best knockouts in the UFC, and he always comes to fight. Tonight, it looked like the cut killed him. He couldn't get off. He couldn't throw any punches tonight. He was basically getting lit up by Sakara, and that's not James Irvin. That's not who he is as a fighter. The 185 cut is too hard for him."](http://cdn3.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/106315/14iekis_small.jpg)
