How To Do A Fanpost Properly

Please rec'd this...

We are experiencing tremendous growth here at www.mmaforreal.com, and I want to make sure everyone knows how to properly use the technology that we have on the site.  It will help you, and also help us in regards to broadcasting what's written here to the masses properly.  Several of you have been posting here a long time and either forget to do certain things, or I have failed to educate you on what you need to do to properly post a fanpost/fanshot.  Check it out below:

Whenever you are doing fanpost...after you write what you write..you'll look down and see these icons.  Where it says 'topics', that's where you put the tags for each subject that the post is about.  Like if you were writing about the upcoming Shinya Aoki vs. Gilbert Melendez fight that could take place in Strikeforce...your tags would be.....Shinya Aoki, Gilbert Melendez, Strikeforce...

Now below that there's a small box...that says Promote Beyond Community(this is what most of you forget).  You need to check that box...then write a quick two sentence or so summary about what the post is about.  So using the Aoki/Melendez reference...you could write something like this...

This post is about a potential MMA fight between DREAM champion Shinya Aoki and Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez.  The bout could happen in April on the Strikeforce card that will air on CBS.

Also, right under that...there's a Facebook icon...if you would like to post the post you have just written to your Facebook wall...just check that box beside the icon....then scroll down and click publish....boom....you are done!

The important thing to remember is if you don't add the tags and write the summary in the promote your work box, nobody will be able to find it on the website....doing these things broadcasts your work(and ours) to search engines and things of the like.  I've been going in and editing the majority of these fanposts to include tags, etc.  However, I just don't have time to do it anymore...plus it's my job to educate you on the technology that we have available.

If you have any questions...please let me know in the comments section.

The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of MMA4Real readers and do not necessarily reflect those of MMA4Real editors or staff.

Ok..

It appears that community members will not see a ‘promote your post’ box…that’s only for adminstrators…so just make sure you add the tags…and/or link your FB/Twitter accounts to the post…don’t forget to rec’d this for me please…!

It’s done different ways….I am not that familiar with SBNation’s app for posting but on a few sites I have had experience with: 1) Two copies of the image exist, one thumbnail and one full size. THe thumb can be linked to the fullsize via html code that is either automatic or manually typed in. 2) There is an internal resource that the app uses to malke a thumbnail sized image out of an existing full size one. You can choose to have the thumb link to the other through the app.

Hope that helps. I’ll see what I can figure out through this app.

Very Helpful and now I understand what tags are. I thought they were html links to some kind of other site. Will work it out for the next post
