Rich Franklin Talks Randy Couture, Title Run, And Future In Fighting
via bloodboozeandbruises.files.wordpress.com
Rich Franklin recently spoke with the Boston Herald
"It’s not signed yet, but we’ve been working Randy now for a while. We’ve talked June, then we talked August and now we’re talking June again," Franklin said. "I think we’re having problems with Randy’s scheduling. So I really don’t know what the plan is at this point."
This fight has been on the radar for a while, and it has already been rumoured that there is a conflict with Randy's filming schedule. Heres hoping this works out and we get to see these two legends go head to head. Even if neither of the two ever see the peak of the mountain again it is still a great fight.
Franklin is now looking to make a title run.
"I’m at a point now where I’ve fought enough fights and it’s time for me to make a title run again and see where that takes me. That’s where my focus is Now,’‘
This is what i spoke about in one of my earlier pieces. Many believe that Franklin has no chance against the top of the light heavy weight division, and they have a point. Franklin struggles with aggressive strikers. The shining moments Wanderlei Silva had in their meet was when he was pushing forward and pushing the action. Regardless it is the best idea for him to see how far he can get. In the end i see him being in a Keith Jardene type of position, in which he will be a good test for the up and comers.
Franklin talked about his future in MMA.
"It depends on the speed of things. I would imagine I’ll probably end up negotiating one more contract before I retire. I’m looking at another two or three years of fighting."
Franklin currently has six fights left on his contract. If he hopes to get another contract negotiated he will have to pick up his pace of fights. If this fight happens in June it would have been ten months from his last fight, which took place at UFC 103. Franklin is usually pretty busy, in 2009 he fought three times. In 2008 he fought only twice, but one of the major reasons for this is the fact he had to get his face put back together after Anderson Silva smashed it. Finally in 2007 he fought three times. So if he can keep up a pace of three fights a year he will be able to reach the goal he is aiming for.
Franklin's days as a champion are over and if he can climb up to a number one contenders match in the light heavy weight division he would have surpassed many peoples expectations for him. Personally i think he will get his shit tooled by any of the top five guys in the light heavy weight division, but i have been wrong before.

Gob Bluth: I know what an erection feels like, Michael. No, it’s the opposite. It’s... it’s like my heart is getting hard.

What are yall talking about
This is gonna be an awesome fight both fighters were at the top of their divisions for a long time and Franklin hasn’t fought at 205 in a while so what better competition to give him than a guy(Couture) who;s been knocking off the lower guys on the ladder anyway.(Vera, Coleman)

I like this fight for sentamental reasons, also i am hoping to be at 115 and its nice be able to see two legends fight before they retire, much the same way in hockey guys got to see the great one play. Its more for the experence then real relevence in the division. I love both fighters but i accept that its a good chance neither will ever see the top of the LHW division.
