MMA fighting has the story

Gegard Mousasi, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Renato Sobral will all be participating in the Dream Light Heavyweight Grand Prix, which will begin on May 30 at Dream.15.

Mousasi confirmed his own participation in an interview with MMAFighting.com on Wednesday, and Dream officials confirmed that Sokoudjou and Babalu will be part of the tournament as well.

On the surface is looks as though Strikeforce is about to throw their champion and possibility their biggest up coming star into the fire. I see this as a great chance for Strikeforce. First off, there is a good chance Mousasi is going to win making him a dual champion, but if he losses to either Sobral, or Sokoudjou there is a potential for a rubber match. This could lead to a great trilogy of fights.

Renato `Babalu` Sobral (33-9) is a cagey veteran and has been in there against everyone. It has been over 6 months since Sobral lost his Strikeforce light heavy weight title to Mousasi. Sobral is a fighter that should never be counted out and there is no doubt he will have a lot of motivation going into this grand prix. Sobral was on a five fight winning streak before he lost to Mousasi, and he will be looking to get back on track and what better way then to win the Dream light heavy weight title.

Star-divide

Remeau Thierry Sokoudjou exploded on the MMA scene when he mopped the floor with little Nog and Ricardo Arona. Since then he has fallen off the horse and has went three and five. We last seen Sokoudjou lose in the finals of the super Hulk grand prix when he lost to Ikuhisa Minowaman. Sokoudjou needs to turn things around in his career and this grand prix gives him that chance. Sokoudjou has a chance to avenge two huge losses and also become a champion for the first time in his career. Just a piece of advice for him, you need to work on carido.

Gegard Mousasi (28-2) has not lost since August of 2006. No doubt Mousasi will be going in as the odds on favorite to take the grand prix. We last saw Mousasi destroy an aging Gary Goodridge at K-1 Dynomite in Japan. The only way I really see the Mousasi hype train being derailed at this point is if he losses his upcoming title defense to ``King Mo``. Barring that I see Mousasi walking into this and taking it home.

Sokoudjou can hang with many top 10 LHWs… for approx 3-4 minutes.

He kind of pisses me off for not living up to his potential.

lol sad but probably true. It will be interesting to see who else they try and scrape up to try and make this grand prix legit. With that said i look forward to it reguardless.

Nah, I don’t think that’s quite right. I mean, Sokoudjou hasn’t beaten anyone legit since Arona and Nog, and those can still be written off as flukes. The guy has talent, but he isn’t going to do anything. And Babalu? Mousasi will tear him up just like last time. Unless they get some decent guys in that GP it’s gonna be all Mousasi all the time.

Still there isnt really alot of reward for such a risk. Yes all odds are in Mousasi’s favour but upsets happen. If you had to ask any one who would win between Matt Serra or GSP im sure no one was picking Serra and the same for Louzon vs Pulver.

This is a trick by Dream

I think Dream has a clase in their champions that they must defend the belt once a year or something. Dream wants Mousasi bad. They set up the Super Hulk tournoment for him to win, but he pulled out. For some reason they want a belt around Mousasi’s waist. Oh and expect Sokoudjou in the opposite bracket from Mousasi. Mousasi vs Sokoudjou in the finals.
