MMA media running on rumors yet again
On Saturday, Sherdog.com's Loretta Hunt posted this news story as their main headline.
Former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin have verbally agreed to meet in a light heavyweight tilt in June, Sherdog.com has learned from multiple sources. UFC 115, though not officially announced, has been tentatively scheduled for June 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
This isn't that suprising, since just about every MMA website on the net, including this one, was running this story. But then it started coming out that the "news" was nothing more than rumor; and not the good kind of rumors, the "where there's smoke, there's fire" rumors. These are horrible rumors that ruin a person's reputation, not just as a fighter but as a man. They are so without merit that I won't even go into them here.
Hunt then when on to post that even though Dana White had denied the Liddell vs Franklin bout, that he was basically a liar.
Sherdog.com re-affirmed with its sources that the Liddell-Franklin bout is still in play.
This is strange, since it appears that Dana White, Chuck Liddell, and Tito Ortiz all seem to think that everything is fine.
I e-mailed Hunt to ask her why she was insistent on running the Liddell-Franklin story, when it was clear that fight was NOT happening. Her response?
This fight is happening.
Well, you can't argue with that! Let's just remember folks, the MMA media (including Hunt) ran with the rumor of Kimo Leopoldo having passed away last July and put it up as news, with zero facts to back it up. Their "source" was a thread on the UG started by a prankster. For those of you who don't recall, Kimo hadn't passed away, nor was he ill or even in poor spirits. He's still alive and well, for the matter.
So keep in mind, when you read a lot of these headlines, they are based on little if anything most times. Take it with a grain of salt, and move on.

I thought that is why she said the fight had not been offcially announced. So until it is offcial announced or both fighters sign a contract its just a roumor.

I'm convinced
This whole Tito thing is BS being stirred up to get people interested in this season of TUF.

Isn't THIS Part of the MMA Media News Cycle Game
- Some unsubstantiated news item gets posted and then linked to ad nauseum.
- Fans react and discuss why they’re pissed off and why they’re beginning to hate Fighter A or B.
- The news item may or may not be proven to be false.
- New article is posted refuting earlier claims by unsubstantiated news item – see recent Fedor rumor fighting in Dream.
- Fans still harbor ill feelings about aforementioned Fighter because that fighter sucks, he won’t face real competition-read UFC competition, etc.
- Or maybe they didn’t see, hear or read a (maybe: foreign-based) article where the fighter, or manager explains all.
Am I close?
