Report: Huerta to sign with Bellator
According to MMAJunkie.com, Bellator Fighting Championships with announce the signing of lightweight Roger Huerta to compete in the promotion's eight-man lightweight tournament this season.
The announcement is expected to come during a video press conference which will be streamed live at the company's Web site.
MMA Junkie reports that Huerta (20-3-1) received his formal released from the UFC this week after finishing up his tenure with the company with split decision loss to Gray Maynard back at UFC Fight Night in September.
For Bellator, this is a great signing. It will create more notoriety for an aspiring promotion, as Huerta likely is the biggest, most-recognized star on the promotion's roster.
Huerta wowed fans with his 6-2 run in the UFC, including a thrilling Fight of the Year candidate win against Clay Guida at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale, and no one will forget him looking at the big screen to land elbows on Alberto Crane, who was on his back.
If he can recapture the magic he had in his UFC run before losing two straight, this could be the very definition of a win-win signing.
