UFC 112: "Invincible" Almost Finalized

UFC 112: "Invincible"

UFC 112: "Invincible"

With all of the Zuffa related programs taking place this month, I'd like to point out that UFC 112 is almost finalized.  There are 10 bouts officially announced on the UFC website, with one more bout likely to be added to make 11 fights on the card.  With all of the talk about Zuffa's tough start PPV wise(by their standards) in early 2010, I think UFC 112 will be the pivotal event for them.  UFC 111 is going to do very well PPV wise, as will UFC 113, 114, and 115(if it takes place in Canada).  Not to mention that Brock Lesnar will be returning possibly around UFC 116.  UFC 112 is a solid event, but it's not really mind blowing either as it features some great fighters of now and of yester year.  If this event can do respectable number(around 400K PPV buys) and keep the momentum from UFC 111 going, I think the company could reel off several huge shows this summer barring any setbacks from injuries to top fighters etc.(knock on wood).  It'll be interesting to see how the casual fan reacts to this card, as it'll be taking place overseas in Abu Dhabi.  In fact, it'll be the first ever outdoor event in the Zuffa era.  Let's take a look at the card after the jump.

Star-divide

-Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia(UFC Middleweight Championship)

-BJ Penn vs. Frankie Edgar(UFC Lightweight Championship)

-Matt Hughes vs. Renzo Gracie

-Terry Etim vs. Raphael dos Anjos

-Kendall Grove vs. Mark Munoz

-Alexander Gustaffson vs. Phil Davis

-Paul Taylor vs. John Gunderson

-Nick Osipczak vs. Rick Story

-Damarques Johnson vs. Brad Blackburn

-Paul Kelly vs. Matt Veach

-Jon Madsen vs. Moustapha Al-Turk*

*Not officially announced by the UFC

Awesome event on paper. Don’t know what the cards hold as far as buyrate. I just know that, as a fan, I’m glad that we get to see good matchups like this.

I’ll watch Penn fight any day of the week, especially if it’s at lightweight. And Gustaffson vs. Davis could steal the show.

Buy rate is going to be wacky, because of the tape delay factor. If this wasn’t tape delayed, this card would pull 650,000 buys, easily. But considering it’s tape delayed, and that spoilers are going to be floating out there for a good 8+ hours before the prime time PPV card shows in America?I’d be suprised if it topped 400,000 buys, which would be huge for a tape delayed card.

5 Fights For Me

While I think Silva and Penn will win their title matches, it would be cool to see either fighter lose.

I really respect Hughes as a fighter. with 50 career fights and less than 10 losses total but he hasn’t been impressive since maybe 2005.

. . . I’m interested in seeing what Davis, Story and Veach do in their fights.
