Former UFC Champion Andrei Arlovski Signs With Strikeforce

New Strikeforce signee Andrei Arlovski

From his official website:

As promised I wanted to tell you all first hand, I have a multi-fight deal for the next 16 months with Strikeforce and I cannot wait to get into the ring and show the world what I have been working on the last few months!

Sherdog is reporting that Arlovski will face off against Antonio "Big Foot" Silva on May 15th in St. Louis.  Arlovski hasn't fought since getting knocked out in quick fashion against Brett Rogers last June.  Silva is coming off a close decision loss to Fabricio Werdum in November.  Can Arlovski make some noise in the Strikeforce division, or are his better days behind him at 31 years of age?  Just a reminder, he was giving Fedor Emelianenko all he could handle before he had a brain fart and thought he was a lightweight as he went for a flying knee and got knocked out.

It’s his only option ATM – he’s “damaged goods” as far as the UFC is concerned and he needs to get rolling with wins over some ‘intermediate’ competition if he wants to make another run at the big times.

Heard he’s going to spend most of his next training camp at Jackson’s. People tend to go a little nuts as far as camps are concerned but I think it’s a good move, more for the mental coaching I think he will get from Greg than anything else.

Like 3PA mentioned, he’s damaged goods to the UFC for sure. This is for sure the best move he could make for his career right now.. I doubt that Japan wants him (they don’t seem to be too big on heavyweights lately), the UFC won’t touch him, and there’s really nowhere else that he’s going to be able to make any bank.

For Strikeforce it’s a good acquisition, because they can really use all the warm bodies with names that they possibly can. But does anyone really think they’ll use him? They’ve had Shaolin under contract for six months, and there aren’t even rumors about him fighting. If Arlovski can consistent fights that’s great for him, but I’m not holding out much hope for the guy.

Arlovski is a big enough draw (still) that he won’t be shelfed like that… I don’t think at least.

But Strikeforce has managed som remarkable eff ups lately so who knows?

This would be awesome news if it wasn’t for the fact that I don’t care.

AA is a moron and after getting starched by Rogers will never be taken seriously again.
