Report: Thiago Silva Re-Habbing Back Injury And Aims To Fight In July 2010

UFC Light Heavyweight Thiago Silva

UFC Light Heavyweight Thiago Silva

UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva lost a decision to former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at UFC 108.  It was reported that Silva went into the fight with an back injury and it appears that he's still dealing with that.  He spoke with Tatame and provided an update on that and when he'll be returning to the octagon:

"I have four hernias, the doctors won’t let me to train ground, wrestling... Just physical therapy on the next six weeks". "If it depended on me... I want to fight as soon as possible, If it were for me I’d fight next week", tells the fighter from American Top Team, who was called to be back to the octagon in July, but waits the authorization from medical department. "They (UFC) want me to fight in July, I don’t have a right date yet, but I don’t want to fight hurt again, man",

So it looks as if the Brazilian will return to the cage in July if all goes well with rehabilitation to heal his back injuries.  That would be roughly six months since his defeat against Rashad Evans and there are a couple of light heavyweights scheduled to fight in the mean time.  Brandon Vera will be taking on rising star Jon Jones on the UFC on Versus 1 card.  Silva could potentially return to face the winner of that fight in July.  If not, there are quite a few marquee fights happening in the light heavyweight division in May.  Who would you like to see Silva face next?

Silva's return

Think Thiago fighting the winner of Jones/Vera actually makes a lot of sense. If Jones beats Vera after technically dominating Matt Hamill, he deserves a step up against someone like Thiago. If Vera wins, Thiago makes perfect sense as the two are along the same lines with wins and losses lately. If not that, then Thiago should fight Ryan Bader.
