What's Next For George Sotiropoulos After Upset Win At UFC 110?

UFC lightweight George Sotiropoulos

Besides Cain Velasqeuz's destruction of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the main event, the biggest news coming out of UFC 110 was TUF alum George Sotiropoulos's domination of highly regarded Joe Stevenson.  I wrote the following last week in the matchup preview:

Sotoripoulos is very well rounded as is Stevenson, but he should enjoy a reach advantage although Stevenson made be the more powerful of the two.  It's a great match up that could feature many transitions on the ground and solid exchanges while standing.  I would not be surprised to see Sotiropoulos give Stevenson all he can handle.

Granted, I went on to pick Stevenson via unanimous decision because I felt he would be able to get Sotiropoulos to the ground.  However, even when Stevenson was successful in doing so he was outclassed.  Stevenson was pretty high up on the UFC totem pole in regards to the lightweight division.  There's Frankie Edgar who'll be challenging getting molly whopped against BJ Penn for the title at UFC 112.  Then you have Gray Maynard, Kenny Florian, Tyson Griffin, and maybe Sean Sherk as potential match ups down the road.  Dana White indicated that Sotiropoulos was 'in the mix', but indicated he'd need a couple of more wins before getting a title shot.  Which is definitely fair.  Who would you like to see him face in his next match up and how would you see a potential showdown with BJ Penn going?

Sean Sherk or Gray Maynard probably – he’s too old to take baby steps.

He would get demolished on the feet against Penn in a fight that would never hit the ground.

Probably

I think Sotiropoulos’s stand up is better than Sanchez and definitely Stevenson though…could be interesting….plus he’s pretty long.
