UPDATE: Demian Maia To Face Anderson Silva At UFC 112
As of now this is very much a rumor, but Heavy.com is reporting that Demian Maia (12-1) will step in to face world middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva (25-4) at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi on April 10th now that previous challenger Vitor Belfort (19-8) was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. Maia rebounded from his first setback as a pro fighter and won a decision against Dan Miller just last weekend in Las Vegas. Keep in mind that this is still an unsubstantiated rumor. I can tell you, however, that this is also the word that I've been hearing today but I had assumed that Silva would take on a light heavyweight (like Kelvin has menioned in a previous piece). It could take several days for us to hear anything 100% confirmed from Zuffa. Luckily, Belfort's withdrawal came far enough in advance to leave plenty of time for the champion and his new opponent to train properly for the event. Stay tuned.

Following a hard-fought three round win over Dan Miller at UFC 109 that showed him to be more than just a submission expert, Demian
Demian Maia gives his thoughts via Twitter:Maia will jump right back into training camp for the biggest fight of his career – an April 10th meeting with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the main event of UFC 112 at Ferrari World on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
A dream of a lifetime, in one night. @UFC 112

The UFC tweeted and confirmed it.
I will be rooting for him, even though it’s unlikely he will win.

“This fight will be tough but my good friend jab and clinch will keep him at bay and finish the fight.”
Sorry, I’m extremely corny when I’m drunk or bored at work but What HAPPENED? They couldn’t get Nate Marquardt? Whatever, I’ll enjoy the fight either way. It is safe to say that the fight will not last 3 rounds. It won’t be as quick as Marquardt vs. Maia but it will be quick and brutal.
yeah yeah yeah . . .
Ehh
I’m not too pumped for this…but hopefully it’ll be competitive.

I think Maia can get a full mount on Silva and he still will lose the fight.

Marquardt and Sonnen are both on medical suspension
And wouldn’t be able to train. Besides Maia, the only other person they could pull might be Akiyama or Belcher, and neither of them are really ready.

If you believe in (a) god
Please pray for Maia. If you don’t.. well, still give it a shot. A single shot from Marquardt blew him out, and I don’t want to see him get killed at the hands of Anderson Silva.

Maia beat Sonnen but lost to Marquardt
Marquardt beat Maia but lost to Sonnen
Sonnen beat Marquardt but lost to Maia
Thats a tricky situation and given the beating Sonnen took in his win over Nate and likewise the damage Nate sustained rules them out…
I’m not thrilled but I’ll take it. This won’t be a Thales Leites encore but Maia had a tough time getting Miller to the ground. How does he intend submitting Silva?
Unless Maia pulls off a Ryo Chonan style sub out of nowhere, I see this ending with Maia getting taken apart and eventually getting KO’d brutally.

Maia better start practicing submissions of the flying variety.
In fact, he should pull guard at the weigh ins.
