Rick Story pounds on Dustin Hazelett at UFC 117. Story wants Thiago Alves in his next fight. Photo by Scott Petersen/MMAWeekly.com
UFC welterweight Rick Story is looking to make a name for himself, he told Sherdog recently. He wants to do it at the expense of former No. 1 contender Thiago Alves.
"I know that somebody like Thiago Alves, beating him, it would make people realize, ‘This guy is for real.' I just want everybody to know that I am for real and I'm not going to stop until I get that number one spot."
Story (12-3 overall) is 5-1 in the UFC and was on the main card of a show for the first time when he beat Johny Hendricks by decision at "The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale" earlier this month. His only UFC loss came in his debut at UFC 99 against John Hathaway.
After losing two in a row, Alves rebounded with a solid decision win against John Howard at UFC 124 earlier this month.
What does everyone think of this fight? Personally, I think it would be a good scrap and a good test of Story. Plus, until he starts making weight consistently, Alves doesn't need to be put in any high profile fights. It does make sense.
