MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will make the first defense of his title when he faces "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler on Jan. 29 in San Jose, Calif.
"Jacare" claimed the promotion's vacant 185-pound title when he beat Tim Kennedy by unanimous decision at "Strikeforce: Houston" in August. Lawler is coming off a quick knockout win over Matt Lindland at "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu" earlier this month. Lawler is a former EliteXC middleweight champion.
The site also is reporting the fight between 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker and Scott Carson has been rescheduled for the event. The bout originally was supposed to happen Dec. 4 in St. Louis but Walker suffered a cut in training.
Walker, a former NFL standout, is 1-0 in MMA after beating Greg Nagy by third-round TKO at "Strikeforce: Miami" last January.
Sherdog.com is reporting that a light-heavyweight bout between grappling wizard Roger Gracie and veteran Trevor Prangley also is expected for the event.
Gracie is coming off a second-round submission win over former UFC heavyweight champion Kevin Randleman at "Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery" in May while Prangley last beat Keith Jardine by split decision at Shark Fights 13 in September.
