MMA For Real's November 2010 Edition of the Carolinas Pro & Amateur Rankings

One goal that we have at MMA For Real is to establish some type of ranking system for fighters regionally, both professional and amateur. The MMA scene in this region continues to grow and such a system could have some value for fans, fighters and matchmakers alike. This list represents fighters from this area that actively compete close to home and those that are fighting outside of this region. There will inevitably be fighters that are currently between the amateur and professional ranks that are not yet represented within these rankings. There will also be fighters that are very talented but haven't been active enough recently to reflect in the list. We will highlight at least a few fighters in each weight class. We realize that compiling a ranking like this is very subjective so we have attempted to talk with several managers, fighters and other folks from around the Carolinas. We'd like to hear feedback from others and would like the continued help of the MMA community across the region to help improve the rankings and make them as accurate as possible.  We expect to update these rankings once per month due to the frequency that a lot of these fighters schedule fights. We'll be considering fighter activity going forward. Barring some sort of noteworthy exception, fighters need to have competed at least once in the past 12 months to be considered for the rankings. An exception will be made for fighters that have had a delay due to service overseas. We will allow inactivity for up to 15 months in those select cases.

Check out the rankings after the jump!

Special thanks goes out to all the managers and fight promoters that helped with their suggestions and information.  Again, we look forward to hearing YOUR opinions.  Rankings are extremely SUBJECTIVE so nobody will ever get it 100% right, but we aim to do so.  Now, for you managers and fight promoters:  We will depend heavily on you to keep us updated on when your guys are fighting so we can keep our stats current.  That way these rankings can be as accurate as possible.  Ultimately, we hope these rankings will shed light on some of the best available talent in the Carolinas while also assisting promotions in putting on fights that the fans want to see.  You may ask how you can do that.  It's pretty simple and some fighters and managers have already done this.  Simply click here and officially join the community here at www.mmaforreal.com and create your username to join in the discussion/debates we have, to post when you'll be fighting next, to post your own video blogs leading up to fights, and whatever else you think will add to the site.

Thanks Rich!

It’s great that you guys take the time to organize these local rankings. The last one you posted no one commented but everyone I talked to damn near memorized them so regardless of how many comments this one gets just know people are reading them.
I’m shooting for the pro #1 spot at 145 now!

-The loss on JJ Brantley’s record was under Muay Thai rules so he’s still undefeated in MMA.

-Varon Webb and Micah Lail have looked great lately!

-Preston Marks opponents have the highest win percentage so props to him for taking tough fights.

The harder you work, the luckier you get.........

Thanks! And thanks for the heads-up on J.J.‘s situation. I’ll correct his record.

Nissen Osterneck

What’s his story? Is he fighting exclusively in the Carolina’s?

With the WEC merging in to the UFC I’m always interested in seeing ranking for unknown Bantam and Featherweights. I’m sure they will be having some TUF seasons with those two weight classes.

Made an update to the rankings. Thanks to Tim for letting me know that John Richard beat Steve Banks a couple of weeks ago. That moves John up to # 2 at pro heavyweight.

Lightweight

Why is Jon Owens ranked as a lightweight? I thought he was a featherweight and he fought Preston Marks last year. If he is 155 now and is looking for a fight, I am sure Jordan would love to take that #2 spot.

Also, Jordan Rinaldi is fighting Dennis Bermudez on November 20 in Harrisburg, PA. Huge fight for him!

How’s it going, man? Yeah, Jon moved up to 155 pounds and won his first fight there a few months back. He just hasn’t been real active recently. Good luck to Jordan in that fight and major props to him and Team ROC teammate Bill Metts for stepping up and fighting two of PA’s better young fighters on their home turf. That’s what makes a fighter better.

Doing well, you? Just getting Jordan into as many fights as he can to gain experience and push him further. This will be a true test of Jordan’s talent…we will see just how far he has come! Thanks for the coverage and all you guys do, it is great stuff!

Opponents Win %

Just wondering how you all calculate this? Jordan’s opponents at the time of him fighting them were (3-4, 6-6, 1-0) which is a 50% win total. After he fought them they were (3-5, 6-7, 1-1) which is a 43.5% win total. Even at their current records (3-6, 6-7, 1-1) that is still a 41.7% win total. Just wondering where you got 40.9% for Jordan. Not a big deal, just curious what sources you guys use. Thanks.

Bantamweights

Seeing that Tran has already made his proffesional debut, would that bump Varon Webb to the number 1 spot? Also January 22nd Varon Webb and Casey Johnson will be fighting each other, should be fight of the night.
